Special Edition FFG Darth Vader For Star Wars Celebration
February 28, 2019 by brennon
Fantasy Flight Games will be attending the Star Wars Celebrations in Chicago between April 11th-15th with a special Limited Edition Darth Vader for you to use in games of Star Wars: Legion.
This is a special resin cast miniature with a sculpted base showing Darth Vader in his element. He is shown summoning up The Force getting ready to crush his foes into dust.
As well as the miniature you'll also get alternative art versions of his stat cards alongside all of the additional bits and pieces you need to use Darth Vader in your games of Star Wars: Legion.
The team from Fantasy Flight Games will also be hosting a variety of different events too. There will be a panel on bringing Star Wars to the tabletop, a painting panel with Sorastro's Painting alongside tutorials and a chat with Darren Tan about Star Wars and artwork.
There will also be a MASSIVE 30' x 32' diorama showing off the Battle Of Scarif!
Will you be popping along to check this out?

And the anger, hate and vitriol running through SW:L fanboys could fuel galaxies of Sith. All the whining going on in forums and Facebook groups is insane.
Yes, it’s a nice alternate sculpt with alternate art cards. But it’s literally the same unit. I really don’t get it. There are ample unofficial alt-sculpts. Just get them. *sigh*
This is why we can’t have nice things…
It’s called entitlement @sundancer – some people just think they are owed everything.
It’s getting so ridiculous. There’s actually a discussion on Facebook if it where to be OK to 3D scan the mini and distribute the file through shapeways and such… that’s just mind blowing…
hmmmm disagree here. this is a premium for those attending. of course you can use any miniature but what use is this to you if you don’t play. and if you do, for a it matter what Mr. v looks like.
additional battle of scarf means shorestroopers and maybe even an AT ACT
I don’t think @sundancer was saying that they should 3D scan the miniature @tacticalgenius – I think he was saying it was a bad thing.
This is, as you say, a premium SPECIAL miniature for those who attend and sometimes that just how it is. It’s not going to kill people to not have the model heh.
What @brennon said.
Are you sure it can’t kill?
OCD (obsessive collector disorder) is a serious and nasty complaint…
I would have loved to get the 3rd Edition Arkham Horror with free book from FFG, but postage was stupid to UK, so I just didn’t buy the game.
In UK, you had to visit local gaming store to get the book as preorder and no where local was selling… and bricks and mortar stores were not allowed to sell it online.
I’m more upset that Celebration skipped Europe for this one, they had been alternating between US/EU but there you go. Not a lot you can do about it.
Yep yep, you guys are absolutely right, haha I can’t believe some of the stuff…. although that being said I WANT IT NOW BUT CANT HAVE IT!!! ???
It’s a very nice sculpt and I hope they develop some more dynamic stuff like this, I’ve noticed the new Lord of the Rings are really dynamic compared to the old (I’m painting up the hunters right now) so it would to see FF go a similar route if they can
Something they could potentially do for those winning/attending tournaments too as a special prize offering. Maybe even from the new ‘wall of prizes’ thing that FFG do for their card games.
and let’s be honest: even if those minis get on ebay: the conventions entry fee is 55USD+ plus flight. So if that thing went up for 200USD it would still be much cheaper and easier to pick up than going there 😉
Also: many show exclusives later get released in some shape or form to the public. Just wait and see
From past experience with FFG, they do not release their exclusives later on. Long history of not doing it with Star Wars Miniatures Game.
Hopefully some photos of the table will pop up on the internet
The figure look brilliant.
That is really nice looking render. I also like pose that they are giving him.
Dunno… that pose could look weird if you stood Darth in front of a Rancor with his hand like that…. “Groper of Rancor is he… to the dark side that leads…”
I think it’s straight out of the new comic books. possibly even a cover art pose. I really like the model and think it’s ace
If there were special cards (as in special rules) I’d join in the fury – even as a non-player of this game.
As it’s just an alt sculpt and alt artwork, it just adds to the idea that Star Wars has the most toxic fans (not all Star Wars fans are toxic, but the toxic ones are the most toxic).
Yeah it’s the same guy with the same rules…on a different base with an alternative stance.
Heck, I’m fairly sure Lloyd could sculpt some people some foam rocks to use for this if they really wanted it.
I guess it’s a mix of new tabletop gamers who don’t know minis can be customised in all the ways us hobbyists do, and the jerk factor you get in Star Wars fandom.
With SW:L there is also the fact that the height of the mini directly influences line of sight and cover. There has been a metric f*ckton of a discussion when people started assembling their AT-ST with straight legs to get them as high as possible… so basing your infantry on bases with high terrain was somewhat… shady… but now FFG is doing it officially with this sculpt so I expect to see many foot-on-rock mods at the coming tournaments :S
When I hear of the “RAW brigade” (Rules As Written), ruining yet another system, I have to stop an grimace of annoyance. I’ve no idea why a certain vocal subset of gamers always rises to the top of community boards and start to dictate the interpretation, “bending” the interpretation sometimes to ridiculous levels. Sometimes it’s lazy rule writing, but most of the time it’s this group that try to “break” a game (either by claiming RAW, or abusing army lists in a tourney). It’s probably a good job I’ll never run a tourney because I’d kick the lot of ’em… Read more »
Oh that’s a shame. A shame rules writers have to write defensively against these sorts of players; and a shame these writers haven’t done so in this case.
*sigh*
If they really wanted to freak the fans out they should’ve released a Darth jarjar the true dark lord
Entitled? No. Fans just want to be able to buy the sculpt of a major character from the game. What a strange concept, being able to collect the miniatures for a collectable miniatures game.
And Vader is not available in any other way as an individual sculpt. So anyone who just wants to play Imperials HAS to buy the core box and discard or trade half the contents.
This is a dick move by FFG and does nothing to support the game other than to a very narrow group of people attending one convention.
I respectfully disagree. Anyone who was going to probably pick this up already plays Legion so they already have a Darth Vader miniature which is pretty cool in of itself. Also, if you want to get into the game and play Imperials you’ll probably want Darth Vader and some other troops to play alongside him, so the Core Box is a good idea. Heaven forbid that they make something called a Limited Edition special occasion miniature and have him on offer at a special event for the attendees to pick up so they feel that they’ve got something…I don’t know…special.… Read more »
You say you respectfully disagree yet the line “Heaven forbid that they make something called a Limited Edition special occasion miniature and have him on offer at a special event for the attendees to pick up so they feel that they’ve got something…I don’t know…special.” smacks of sarcasm Ben.
One has to consider that people on websites like BoW are removed the everyday reality of the hobby. When you are involved in a website that is sent free stuff, has publishers pushing product via your site, attend events, and otherwise have access to a whole raft of things the average hobbyist does not you can be excused a level of disconnection. BoW exists to push ‘plastic porn’. FFG creating a limited edition model for a specific event, whilst at the same time releasing some rather poor sculpts for major characters like Han and Leia, is a bit insulting to… Read more »
