Spartan Games Call In A Directorate Gunship For Planetfall
June 21, 2014 by brennon
Spartan Games, building on their past reveal of Planetfall miniatures, have added another one to their roster. See what you think of this rather well painted Directorate Gunship that will be harrying your lines and blowing things to pieces!
It's mean looking rather deadly and has a red lens at the front so it must be glaring at some unfortunate soul. I love the whole look of the thing and even though I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to do this good a job on the model it is turning me away from the Terrans and making me look at these black-clad ships full of awesome.
Are you still stoked for Planetfall?

Oh dear. This is going to clash with DZC I fear. I only say it makes me nervous as it will add to the list of stuff I’ll be buying anyway. The feel of the minis will be a bit different from FSA to DZC but I suspect they will be equally as awesome as Hawk punches out.
@toofless, I think the guy from Hawk used to work for Spartan games, nlt sure what went off though, so its no surprise these will be very similar products. I just wished that planetfall was a larger scale tbh, that way they would both be doing very well. I sense that they will be stepping on each others toes, despite my love of Spartan I do hope that Hawk retain a huge chunck of the market as they have worked very hard to create a very positive customer focused company imho. I always think it is difficult to pick a… Read more »
I think that is an affliction of the new games company. I know I write terribly and think much faster than…..words. I’d say the rule book is just a symptom of that. Dystopian wars is a massive favourite and I have a bit of FSA. Having said that I got myself the DZC box as a present for myself and love the look of all of it. I think if I have to live without something in all this it will most likely be Plantefall, but no promises ya know.
I have heard rumors that Spartan is planning both the 15mm game they’re showing and a 28mm skirmish game after Dystopian Legions proved more popular then originally thought. I even seem to recall a thread at their forums that showed off what a lot of people assume to be the 28mm infantry for the Dindrenzi and Terrans aswell as a Terran tank.
Thanks for the info @Mistahsly, that sounds awesome, especially if the veicles are like the one pictured here. I recall some tracked vehicles that did look awesome tbh and could be great in other games.
Btw, @Mistahsly, are you TommyGun from the Infinity forum?
I’m afraid I am not.
Also I meant 10mm not 15mm. A bit of a derp on my end.
I’m not sure if this is against the rules or not, but I found that thread I talked about.

I handled the rules themselves okay, but when it came to working out how to pick a force – yeah, coming up with my first 1000-point force took about 1000 page turns.
MINIATURE ORGASM
does anyone know how big this thing is, its an awesome miniature and i’m wondering if it can be used for 15mm games
Ok never mind just found it and it would make a decent size medium gunship.
More they show the more I’m loving these games from Spartan their models are amazing and the rule sets are really good
Probably the single best 15mm model I’ve seen!
Gotta start saving to buy loads of these 🙂
15mm?
I thought these were meant to be 10mm
I see Spartan Games have faithfully reproduced their concept art into an actual miniature. If they do the same for the rest of their gallery on the Planetfall website; they are going to make some sweet miniatures. I really like the Terran Alliance armoured units. I see they are going to tie Planetfall in with Firestorm Armada for big strategic campaign games. That will be in direct competition with what Hawk are planning for DZC. However, Spartan Games will have to really pull the stops out to compete with the excellent DZC starter set
Planetfall is 10mm last time I saw any of the miniatures a couple years ago. I have a couple of the original starter boxes released,I think about 3 years ago,(come on Spartan!)….but they do plan to do a 15mm game as well…and yes, I have seen the figures and vehicle for these a while ago and they were stunning! I always amazed when I turn my paint brushes back to Spartan stuff just how good they stuff is in any scale!!!!!
We need this stuff now! Planetfall vs DZC……do both!
They cooled off on the 15 and 28mm fortunately. Spartan is a great company, but trying to do too much at the same time was always their weakness. If they can focus on supporting what they have instead of adding a million new scales, it’ll work out just fine.
Completely agree. No one is big enough to dilute their market with a whole bag of scales. It’ll just confuse people (well me, but I’m easily confused).
That is one COOL gunship… 🙂
Planetfall just pinged on my radar.
I don’t see any point whatsoever with having the same game in three different scales. What a waste of time and resources. Well…perhaps there is a point in a 10mm game, for the massive vehicular combat, and a 28mm game set in a skirmish kind of environment. But cramming in 15mm as well? Seems pretty dumb and pointless to me.
I guess the thing is these days its fairly easy to re-scale things one you have a good ‘digital’ design. I agree about ‘too much too soon’ but I would happily play 10mm large battles, 15mm smaller encounters and 28mm skirmishes. I guess the best idea would be 6mm,15mm and 28mm..as the scale difference is greater…..but I am sensing a Planetfall vs DZC coming up.
Seems strange if a company went for both 10 and 15mm having both sizes for other periods they are too close to make any difference on the tabletop though I do like my 10mm historical figures .
Having what I suppose is 2 or 3mm for their main game it would seem strange to want to 6mm as well.
2,10 and 28mm would give a enough spread to over everything youwould want to do n a tabletop I think
Just hope their 10mm stuff wont be as expensive as Hawk Wargames
It shouldn’t be, Spartan resin is very affordable given how much of it you get.
The concept art is great but with the distraction of all the other games they make along with the couple of false starts they have had for Planetfall I chose DZC.
