Up The Soldier Count With Add On Armies For The AWI From Warlord

With the recent release of the of the incredible Liberty or Death! battle set who could possibly think that they need more troops after all the set includes an astonishing 300+ miniatures!
However, there are those of you who will think that is just not enough for some of the bigger battles of the AWI (American War of Independence). Knowing this Warlord Games is already ahead of you with some additional army boxes.
They are now offering a British Starter Army that will get you an additional 163 miniatures, the set includes the following:
- 120 British line Infantry including full command
- 30 Hessian Mercenaries
- 8 Woodland Indians
- 1 Cannon and Crew
- 1 Mounted Commander
- 1 Casualty figure
- Full-colour flag sheets
That is quite a bit and should keep any historical gamer/modeler happy for a little while at least.
Warlord being the ever wise gaming company has also included an Continental Army Starter Army and just as with the British Army set you get quite an impressive array of miniatures to field in the name of liberty, the set includes:
- 20 Continental Infantry including full command
- 40 Colonial Militia
- 1 Cannon and Crew (Including Molly Pitcher)
- 1 Mounted Commander
- 1 Casualty figure
- Full-colour flag sheets
The commander looks like then General Washington on his gallant steed. To add a little more historical colour they have also included a Molly Pitcher miniature, she had reportedly fought at the Battle of Monmouth taking her husband's place at the cannon as part of the artillery crew.
There is so much colourful folklore intertwined with reality of the war that it is sometimes hard to distinguish fantasy from reality. This is a set that I am particularly excited to see and it will definitely make my must have list.

Very nice.
Absolutely love this period. The only issue i have with this is that the miniatures are from Wargames factory and i find them a little tall compared to similar from Foundry etc. It could be the bases of course but i use my WF British as Grenadiers due to their apparent height advantage!
Does anybody known if the mounted officer and cannon ate new models or are they just the war of Spanish succession models?
@captainbirdbum I have the WGF WSS cannon and I’m pretty sure it’s not the same. The generals uniforms are pretty clearly not WSS either so I think they are new as well.
I think the American Army is supposed to be 120 Continentals.
Interesting, my six? Think it’s six times great grandfather fought as a Leftenant in the 82nd during the Penobscot Expedition (where he helped give Paul Revere a good drubbing) – maybe now is the excuse to look into it properly on the tabletop?
If you haven’t already, check out The Fort by Bernard Cornwell. It’s an interesting book about that campaign.

Those are nothing like the old WSS figures..
And the artillery and the Hessians are new plastic kits not yet released previously.

It looks like a nice set but at the back of my mind I always come back to the fact that for the same amount I could get 1166 10mm figures or about 2500 6mm figures. I dread to think how many 2 mm blocks but that’s just me being weird again What I think I mean is that I like an army to look like a mass of troops on the field not a few blokes wandering about But again each to their own it what makes wargaming good fun as there is no right or wrong way of… Read more »
