V&V Miniatures Smash Enemy Lines Apart With Byzantine Cataphracts
May 16, 2018 by brennon
Looking for some heavy cavalry to smash through the enemy lines and cause disarray? Well, that's where the new Byzantine Cataphracts from V&V Miniatures might come in.
The kits from V&V Miniatures are all resin and give you some highly detailed models to work with and add to your force. Admittedly with all of that armour on they all do look the same, but each of them comes with a different weapon which is a neat point of difference!
I remember coming up against these heavy units when playing Rome: Total War. They were hell to deal with, even for a heavily drilled Roman force! In the end, I remember having to tightly bundle my force together, take the charge on the chin and then flank them with light cavalry at the rear in order to stop them retreating.
They are dangerous foes that fight just as well in ancient forces as they do in Medieval ones.
What do you think of the models?

Love ’em.
Aw man these are really blimmin nice.
I remember these bad boys from Total War as well. A really pain in the bum.
Do you think I could file off the stirrups and use them as Parthians?
@grimcrazy What time period was that?
I did a quick look and stirrups go back quite a while
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stirrup
But I didn’t see any stirrups when I googled images of Parthians.
Parthians are Republican Roman (Crassus and Mark Anthony) right through to High Empire with Trajan.
They are the Mecha of the ancient world! 🙂 Warriors encased in brass and steel. Phoenician purple and saffron yellow silk banners.
They had giant muscular legs from gripping the flanks of their horses with their thighs and knees – that’s why their fashion was for flared trousers. Its crazy that no-one had stirrups in the ancient world.
aww no – too expensive to be converted 🙁
V&V are really on fire. They make some of the most beautiful historical miniatures on the market.
I own a few of their Vikings and they are great. Not flawlessly cast resin but very detailed. Forgeworld offers quite often a much worse cast quality and demands your firstborn as payment. So no complaints there.
Will buy more.
