Skirmish In Westeros With CMON’s A Song Of Ice & Fire: Tactics
November 7, 2023 by brennon
CMON recently announced that they are going to be delving into Westeros with a new game that moves away from the rank-and-flank gameplay of tabletop miniatures game. Fancy diving into something a little more skirmish-related? See what you make of the initial information that they presented for A Song Of Ice & Fire: Tactics.
A Song Of Ice & Fire: Tactics // CMON
This new game will sit alongside A Song Of Ice & Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game in terms of its support and releases but will be a different experience on the tabletop. Rather than playing out the massive battles of Westeros, you'll instead be zooming in on the individual clashes between handfuls of heroes, villains and those poor fools who get stuck in the middle. You'll use your miniatures alongside terrain tiles to recreate corners of the battlefield and moments from the stories and beyond to create interesting scenarios.
A new game means new miniatures and these will be in the same scale and proportions as the ones we've seen for the rank-and-flank wargame. I think folks who wanted to go back before the wars of A Game Of Thrones and beyond are going to be particularly happy. I imagine folks will be eager to replay the Battle Of The Trident.

The miniatures that you get will also be interchangeable between the two game systems so whilst there is a focus on a particular period of time in this previews here for Westeros, there should be room for you to take some iconic characters and create scenarios of your own based on the stories from the books.

At a recent preview event, CMON also showed off something pretty insane. As well as some of the smaller character miniatures, we also got the diorama for "Drogon's Fury".

This is actually a playable diorama which seems mad but it will be interesting to see how this actually gets presented to folks when the Kickstarter lands in 2024. As some folks have said, it's good that the game is going to be slotting in alongside the rank-and-flank wargame but hopefully we'll see CMON fix some of their supply problems!
Will you be keeping an eye out for this new skirmish game set in Westeros?

CMON that website that’s for judging other peoples paint jobs.
I think I heard that somewhere…
Great, long overdue. ASOIAF is a fun game I manage to get out not quite as much as I’d like. A skirmish version I could get behind.
Not sure they really need to take this to kickstarter, they should have the resources to do it without given also that the models will work in both. Could be sold as attachment boxes.
My concern is that CMON will go the GW pricing route for the more or less individual figures and make a single human-sized mini $35+.
