Some Skeletal Plastics Begin Rising Out of Heresy Miniatures
April 15, 2014 by dracs
It looks like Heresy Miniatures have been sowing Hydra's teeth as a skeletal 3-up has risen from their work bench.
These skeletons have a great, simple design, obviously reminiscent of the classic stop motion skeleton warriors from the 1960's film Jason and the Argonauts.
Apparently, this WIP is a preview of an upcoming Kickstarter to bring us a bunch of plastics. Since Heresy have previously been working in metals I look forward to seeing how they do with plastic.
Will you call these skeletons to rise from their grave?
this looks great- would be really easy paint too, which would make army-painting nice and quick. They do look very reminiscent of the ones made by Wargames Factory, which are also plastics, and also are clearly inspired by Jason and the Argonauts. The WF do suffer from being very fragile though- if these ones are a tad beefier they’ll be great.
Andy has been wanting to do this for a while now, and when he takes this long to get something going the results are always worth it. Just look at the dragon.
Looks nice. Presumably the other foot is a stretch goal.
they do look like wgf but better. The swords are much better.
I hope that there will be a bow option for them. I am looking for decent skellie archers for my KoW army.
I kinda like it but isn’t basic plastic skeletons a bit competetive niche to get into?
Thanks for the comments, guys! Just to point out, that’s a very much WIP model – I took some resin castings of limbs etc that I’ve been working on for a while and just stuck them together to make sure i was doing things right, that’s why there;s no left foot or kneecap, for instance, I haven’t sculpted them yet! It’s also the least ambitious example of the things I’ve got planned. Some points I’d best make: 1) it’s still very early days on this project despite me starting it two years ago so don’t think that model is anywhere… Read more »
would be nice if they did have some alternative heads with helmets.
These are nice, simple and clean sculpts but also full of character without adorning them with armour and detail. Great stuff.
Also not covered in skulls (just the single mandatory one). I approve
Loving the Greek style shield.
I like the look, I’ve wanted good non-armoured skellies for a long time now. I bought a box of the WGF skellies but they were far to fragile for my purposes. I’ll be keeping an eye out for these.
Was that the original WGF set or the new one? the set was redone a few months back to make them not as fragile, but no idea by how much.
I think the first set, thought the second was just a box change?
They remind of the very original plastic skeltons that GW did when they were 3.99 for 24 or something
I remember having so many of those sets and the Skeleton Army set for £9.99 as a kid!
There are probably still me favourite kit GW have ever done. Simple, cheap but still having build variety. Was easy way to build rank and file up.
Would it be possible to do some skeleton Dwarfs, Trolls and various other humanoid races?
Anything is possible, but only with tons of money thrown at it. You’d have to do a specific sprue for each undead monster, and that’s required funding of around £20k needed per individual model’s sprue, at a guess, based on assumed size and likely number of parts and guide numbers I’ve had for costs.
That’s for the larger monsters, by the way, humanoid sized ones obviously could have a dedicated sprue with 1 of each on, but you’d have to have just that – one of each type, which limits your choices for customisation.
I do have plans for some non-human stuff as part of the eventual KS, but it will depend on many other factors.
Fair enough…it was just a thought . I reckon it might be nice to have the odd on human in a unit
