Sir Sidney Smith Joins The Giants In Miniature Range
September 29, 2019 by brennon
Wargames Illustrated has already started taking pre-orders for their October addition to the Giants In Miniature range. Check out Admiral Sir Sidney Smith.
Here's the blurb from them on who this fellow is which might mean you fancy adding him to your collection...
"Sidney Smith was born into a military and naval family. He joined the Royal Navy in 1777, fought in the American Revolutionary War, served in the Royal Swedish Navy in the Russo-Swedish War and returned to the British Royal Navy to take part in the French Revolutionary Wars. After a period as a captive of the French, he served as an ‘active advisor’ to the Turkish royal court and was instrumental in defending Acre against Napoleon, helping to lead to the latter’s abandonment of his army in Egypt. He also served in the North Sea, off the coast of Portugal and Spain, and became a vehement anti-slavery advocate."
He seems like an all-round good chap and perhaps someone you'd want to fit into the mix if you're exploring the period around Napoleon's rise and the subsequent battles.
Just like as with other Giants In Miniature models, there will only ever be 500 of these made so if you want to get your hands on one then you'll want to either pick him up direct from them or via North Star instead if the fancy takes you.
Are you going to be considering him for your collection?

I really like that they’ve done Sir Sidney the Swedish Knight but he does look a tad cartoony with that giant nose.
Ah Wargames Illustrated Kings of the Understatements
“served in the Royal Swedish Navy in the Russo-Swedish War”
He was basically in command of the Swedish Fleet when they royally smashed the Russians, Lost 600ish men to the Russian’s 10,000, lost 6 ships to their 60. Unfortunately for Sir Sidney a lot of British Naval Officers had joined up with the Russians and died which didn’t win him a lot of friends.
Lindybeige has a fantastic video on Sir Sidney
