Para Bellum Show Off Painted Conquest Miniatures For Essen
October 20, 2017 by brennon
Para Bellum Wargames have shown off some more of their painted miniatures which are going to be making an appearance at Essen next week for Conquest.
Above we have the Men-At-Arms for The Hundred Kingdoms with their shields and swords at the ready to receive the enemy charge. Arrayed against them are some of the Clones from the Spire with both the Brutes...
...and what I assume to be some Spearmen popping up as a yet unseen unit for the game.
The models have been painted up in a style close to the artwork for the game which is neat and I think the touches of red across these creatures for the Spire gives them a certain element of menace.
Make sure to visit them at Essen (Hall 6 G132) if you're going along and say hello.
What do you think of these latest painted teasers?
"I think the touches of red across these creatures for the Spire gives them a certain element of menace..."
Better looking it seems. Would have to see the miniatures properly though.
They do look nice… i shall wait to see where they go with this.
the men at arms are looking pretty good as a unit. one or two in the back line look a little wooded but otherwise I quite like them.
i’m split on the spearmen. I love the concept and style but am unsure on the execution.
the brutes still look a little silly though.
I really really want to like this game.
Great stuff – looking forward to more updates from Essen!
Keeping an open mind. I think the men-at-arms are superb, the others … not quite my cup of tea.
Same same.
I’m actually opposite! The men at arm’s could be from Amy low fantasy or even historical setting (always going to be competing with a Perry set of war of the roses or 100yr war plastics etc). The big and multi-armed fleshy dudes are something else though – really make me think of Clive Barker’s Nightbreed or Monsters – got that 80s, Giger-hellraiser type look going for them and I can’t think of another range that looks similar.
I’m pretty sure most people see that similar. Although many don’t draw the same conclusions. I.e. the human fighters are pretty neat for fantasy ones deeper rooted in gritty half-historical flair etc.
The main problem is a diffferent one though. It’s not the general concept of the darker fantasy concept(s) of the Spyrer faction. It’s how the masterfully designs of the illustrations are transferred into miniatures form. I.e. the specific execution of the sculpts is disappointing most people it seems.
not dissapointed here o/ love the spire minis 😀
Just saw this… mond. blown.

did you also know that the game is being designed to play on a 4×4 table where units can arrive from almost any edge. Units arrive depending on their level with lower ranks appearing first. Later reinforcements can arrive using the offside rule, where reinforcements can arrive closer to the enemy the further into enemy territory you have pushed.
sound like the mechanics are covering all the phases of a proper battle…. can’t wait to see how it plays.
Those infantry look great!
The clone guys and ogres im not keen on, but that said, i think they could be converted into some chaos ogryns quite easily.
ooh they look great as units.
Still dont feel the artwork hype translating. I would like to see the minis unpainted.
The artwork at the begining made this look like it another kingdom death monster .I was really interested until I saw these minis.I agree that the brutes look silly just not into this at all which is a shame.
Yeah, the brutes just look so silly. Their weapons are waaaay too big. They seem really fat with tiny legs. Not intimidating at all. And the poses, what are they doing? It just looks like they are standing their with their arms in weird positions just for the sake of it an it isn’t telling a story. Also, those weapons sticking out are gonna make it hard to be in base to base if the game calls for it. The spearmen, again, whats with the poses? They look like they are hunched over barely able to walk like nursing home… Read more »
well, you’re only really crapping on the guy who built them 😉 it’s not hard to get these guys to into a natural and dynamic pose. the shoulders and hips are ball joints. That’s not the models fault
