Shinobi7 Bringing Conan To The Tabletop With New Games
September 11, 2018 by brennon
Shinobi7 is going to be working to bring not just one, but two different Conan games to the tabletop next year. The first of these will be a miniatures game which will arrive on Kickstarter in 2019.
The game will feature sculpts of Conan (of course) and many of his iconic allies and enemies. You will then be battling it out in a quest for glory against other players. The game won't be Kickstarter exclusive either and will find a home at retail in 2020 (hopefully).
As well as the miniatures game there will also be a card game which will be direct to retail rather than going down the fundraising route.
This all sounds good to me, but we shall have to see how this all comes together over the next few months. I don't know much about Shinobi7 but they do have a back catalogue of games; so, if they can get produce a thrilling campaign and something which has staying power at retail then we might be in luck.
Will you be watching this carefully?

Is this anything to do with the Monolith Conan miniatures game? And if not, is there any information on how different it will be?
An entirely different game. No more details as of yet.
Again? Isnt this like the 3rd company now? Or do they not count because they were board games
We shall see, but it is entirely different from the Monolith game.
Is it just me or are more and more licenses “thrown around”? I really can’t tell at the moment if there is a miniature or boardgame for IP “x”. This is starting to hurt the market I think….
On that note: can please someone make a Discworld game using the miniatures from Micro Art Studios? 🙂
As Howard has been dead for over 50 years his work is public domain. So technically you don’t need a license.
I thought that you do need a licence from his Estate or whoever Curr owns the rights.
its not in the public domain as s found out the other week when the company/estate that has the IP went after a guy making Conan mini’s
I was of the opinion that it wasn’t so much the fact that it was Conan but more due to the fact it was an exact copy of an artist’s painting of Conan.
Technically. Paradox Entertainment claims rights over REH works. But REH works before 1964 are in public domain. So it’s either pay up to Paradox, or prepare for a possible appearance in court.
ObProtip: Don’t back a KS campaign that may end up in an IP dispute.
I would be interested to know whether this means Monolith have lost a license for Conan or whether both companies have a licence to create miniatures based games. Monolith have said they’re planning to release a Conan V2.0 at some point.
I can see the attraction to the world though. It’s such a great setting for High Adventure with an incredibly diverse range of peoples and characters. It’s no surprise to me that so many companies are interested in Conan.
That law suit against thr guy producing Conan minis without a licence makes a lot of sense now.
Lawsuit? I wasn’t aware of this
I hope that a v.2 is coming out .. I think the game would do well with a tweak to its system, and a chance for those of us who just have the retail edition to grab some KS characters.
