Grab Scots Covenanters For Warlord’s Pike & Shotte Epic Battles
October 23, 2023 by brennon
Warlord Games are expanding on their Pike & Shotte Epic Battles range with some new miniature for the Scots Covenanters! You're now able to get your hands on a full Starter Army and more for those looking to dive into this 15mm (13.5mm) wargame set during the cut and thrust of the 17th Century.
Scots Covenanters Battalia // Pike & Shotte Epic Battles
For those not in the know (like me!), Warlord provided some background on the Covenanters and how they slotted into the Civil Wars and beyond.
"The Covenanters were those in Scotland who had signed the National Covenant in 1638 which opposed King Charles I’s interference in religious matters when he attempted to impose changes on the Scottish Church."
These soldiers were well-equipped and motivated in their endeavours and it was interesting to learn that they were also led by officers who served in the Thirty Years' War. The set that you see here contains three plastic Scots Covenanter combined regiments featuring forty with Pike and forty with Muskets plus their various Command elements. You'll also get six Scots Lancers, six Mounted Scots Dragoons, fifteen Dismounted Scots Dragoons, three Scots Covenanter Gun Teams and three Scots Covenanter Battalia Commanders on horseback. You will also get all of the plastic bases you need plus a set of flags.
A sterling set of miniatures and perhaps the easiest way to do tartan since if you mess it up, at least it will be small that no one will notice!
Starter Armies
As well as the Battalia Set above, you can also get two Starter Armies. The first of these is for your Scots Covenanters.
Scots Covenanters Starter Army - Box // Pike & Shotte Epic Battles
This set takes things to the next level when it comes to the offerings that we saw in the Battalia set. As well as a bunch of the new plastics for the Scots Covenanters you also have some Warlord Resin additions in the form of Lord Leven, the Marquis Of Argyll and a Calvinist Minister.

If you want to get a full breakdown of what's in the set, make sure to check out the entry on the Warlord Games webstore HERE. It is going to essentially give you everything that you would need to start bringing the Scots Covenanters to the tabletop for your battles.
In the same style, you also have Montrose's Scottish Royalists Starter Army.
Montrose's Scottish Royalists Starter Army - Box // Pike & Shotte Epic Battles
This set features an army that was mostly made up of infantry. As Warlord say in their description, the army was often outnumbered but never outfought and this set also comes with both the Irish Brigade and Highland clans to help give your force a unique look. You'll find yourself creating quite an iconic army if you choose the Royalists where you have to make up for the fact that you don't have a lot of cavalry and artillery.

As well as a whole host of plastic miniatures, you'll also get your hands on the miniature for The Marquis Of Montrose and a Mounted Herald as well as Alisdair Mac Colla and his two bodyguards. Once again, if you want a full list of what's in the set, make sure to check out the entry on the webstore HERE.
A fun new set for those looking to dive into Pike & Shotte Epic Battles with some unique armies. Whilst you could use these on their own, they could also be folded in alongside some of your existing Royalists and Parliamentarians to recreate various clashes.
What do you make of these new miniatures?

Great Scott!
After seeing the separate heads Warlord had teased for other periods I’m relieved to see this is not their solution for the Covenanters. It’s a dedicated kit and that’s a relief as 1000s of headswaps gave me The Fear.
So apart from the time, space and money needed to start a new scale and new period I’ve no excuse, right?
will likely pick up the montrose deal as tricones are bound to make a appearance in the future to allow a 45
Noticed the front rank of the pikemen on these don’t have any pikes at porte, bit awkward if you’ve based the previous units pike’s on a deeper base to protect the models (and getting them to match).
I’d spotted that, and had planned bigger bases for the front rank of the Parliamentarians. Base depth shouldn’t matter in Pike and Shotte but I can see how the mismatch would be irksome.
This reminds me. Did the Battle of the Boyne project ever go anywhere? @warzan @lloyd @avernos
ooh nice one.
