January 26, 2023 by brennon
Designed by Samy Maronnier and Hugo "Minus" Nivesse and released originally in 2020, Mars: Code Aurora is a Sci-Fi skirmish game that has quite an awesome following in France. Well, it looks like we're going to be getting a re-release of the game via Studio Tomahawk and over on the North Star Military Figures webstore in March 2023.

Mars: Code Aurora has been designed as a generic Sci-Fi skirmish wargame where you can play with whatever miniatures you have in your collection. Typical warbands of soldiers run from between eight to fifteen miniatures per side and the game is driven by a scenario generator which can produce lots of different games each time you sit down to play.
As mentioned, the game allows you to use whatever miniatures you like and there are some great examples of small squads over on the Mars: Code Aurora website.

The accessibility of the rules apparently makes Mars: Code Aurora pretty good for newcomers, especially with the ability to snag miniatures from anywhere to use in-game. The depth of the game when it comes to building interesting squads and exploring the scenarios then makes it something worth checking out if you're a veteran.

North Star also mentioned in their little overview of the game that there is an appendix which covers alternative settings allowing you to play out smuggler runs across the galaxy or corporate skirmishes on bleak Cyberpunk worlds. It is well worth having a look at the Mars: Code Aurora Website for more information on the game AND checking out their Facebook Group too.
Mars: Code Aurora sounds like a great addition to the range of "kitbash and convert" style wargames that we've been seeing over the last few years. It's a good opportunity to break out unloved miniatures and use them for something fun!
