Saxon Miniatures Sculpt Heroes Of Both The Saxons & Vikings
October 17, 2014 by brennon
Saxon Miniatures, the sculpting home of Colin Patten, has a vast collection of very cool looking Saxon and Viking Warlords for you to take a look at. If you're pretty stuck on what to pick up for your SAGA warbands then this could well be the first stop for a hero...
Above are both of the grand collections that you can pick up. It might not immediately look like it but each of the miniatures in these sets are actually named historical characters like Ragnar Lodbrok or Alfred the Great. See what you think of a few of them in more detail.
As you can see there's a lot of really cool sculpting going on here and each of them is a neat project in its own right. It's quite neat to see that even though everyone's clad in chainmail and draped in cloaks you can still get a lot of character out of them.
What do you think?
It’s nice to see that quality has gone higher with SAGA sculpts.
Saw these a few days ago, nice to see Colin Patten back sculpting again
Very nice.
And these guys would also look perfectly at home in Middle-earth
Digging them even if they are heroic scale
possibly at least in part because of the paint job
LotR Dunlendings anyone? 😀
Dunlending
That is what happens when your neighbours don’t return the stuff you lend them.
Nice models!
For those Saga players who replace their Warlord everytime he dies in the game. It’s good to see there is a sizeable pool of suitable candidates for future battles.
Well now, these are rather fetching. For the most part I liked the Saxons and Vikings I got from Wargames Factory, but there were some odd poses in there that couldn’t be helped. I should pick up a few more of each from these folks to redress my lines. Or I might just use them as command groups. Would be cheaper than the Mierce option.
My shinny sense is tingling. These would make for some excellent character pieces for an historical viking rpg I’ve been planning. Great for Saga or LoTR for sure.
Is it just me, or does Ethelred the Unread look uncharacteristically heroic?
I see they are based in Ipswich which is where Gripping beast originally hail from. Must be something in the water or ?
The sculpts do look familiar
