Fight Out Samurai Skirmishes With Helion Wargames’ Bushidan
December 11, 2023 by brennon
If you're looking for a new Historical Samurai wargame in 28mm set during the period, 1543 to 1615 AD then you might want to take a peek at Helion Wargames' Bushidan from author Pauli Kidd.
Bushidan // Helion Wargames
Bushidan was designed for use with 28mm miniatures and small unit warfare during the period. It can also be played at smaller scales but the idea is that a typical army might have between eight or nine units each made up of between four to sixteen figures each.
Bushidan Gameplay - Samurai Duel // Helion Wargames
You'll be able to take on the role of Samurai families, Ikko-Ikki Covenants, Pirates, Bandits and Warrior Monks as well as engage with forces like the Chinese and Joseon Koreans. Players will get to delve into what Helion calls a "box of tricks" so you'll have plenty of tactical decisions to make during gameplay. With a force on small units as well, this should mean that you won't need expansive battlefields to play on either.
Bushidan Gameplay - Desperate Defence // Helion Wargames
As well as being good for one-off clashes, you can also use Bushidan as part of a campaign as there is a full system baked in. This allows you and your gaming group to play out longer conflicts where you're diving into small pockets of fighting as part of larger battles.
This seems like it's ticking a bunch of boxes and if you're interested in learning more, there are design notes and gameplay to check out. Additionally, you can also get reference sheets, tokens and more from the Bushidan section of the Helion Wargames website.
