PDF Rules Arrive For SLA Industries: Cannibal Sector 1
October 19, 2018 by dracs
Nightfall Games have released a pdf of the rules for SLA Industries: Cannibal Sector 1, the skirmish miniatures game based in the setting of the original scifi-horror RPG.
The game was originally Kickstarted in 2016 by Daruma Productions. The project has since been taken over by Nightfall Games, the owners of the original IP and SLA Industries role-playing game. They have since been working to streamline the rules and have released them to download two months before it is sent to print.
More miniatures have also started to appear as Nightfall move forwards with bringing the skirmish game to the table.
It's a really good move to put the rules out before the print run, letting the game's backers feedback on how the rules have come along, as well as check for any errors that might have crept in.
SLA Industries is a setting with a lot of potential, and the skirmish game carries over the slightly retro scifi style that characterises the world.
Check the Kickstarter to download the rules.

And who was running Daruma? And who runs Nightfall? Same people?
There’s definitely some common names
Indeed. And yet they seem keen to try and give the impression that Nightfall has come and ‘saved’ the failed KS.
Financially I have no idea what went on with the Kickstarter. I do know that the current situation can best be described as “complicated”.
Those are very nice.
love the models.
In answer to the question, “Is this a game you have been invested in?”
I have been buying the RPG books of SLA Industries since the first time BoW told us about it.
I’m looking forward to seeing more of this version of the game as it progresses.
I have the 1st printing of SLA rpg. Not a fan of the design choices over the years, especially the shift to a cartoon style artwork. Great IP tethered to a bad game system. If someone other than Nightfall could get hold of it and fix it then it might have a future. I would not trust Nightfall to do this, and certainly would never give them my money.
I am one of those backers and Nightfall Games and Word Forge Games came in after Daruma went into liquidation and most of the project is still with the receivers. Complex isnt the words I would use but basically Word Forge Games stepped in with Nightfall and in couple of months have got this rule set done, which looks cool, got some of the new figures done and working on getting this game out.
Interesting to see folks talk about Nightfall and Daruma as if they were different people behind the companies. What backers will end up with, and how much they will have to pay over and above what they pledged, will be interesting to see.
Yeah, you can find out the names from Companies House easily enough. Two of the Current owners of Nightfall were previously registered as owners of Daruma.
although that may mean nothing, if they were originally part of nightfall who were registered with Daruma to help with background and design. It’s best not to leap to conclusions without knowing the ins and outs otherwise you may end up smearing someone who is completely blameless of any wrong doing.
Well, two of the guys jumped ship seemingly at the point the money ran out and left one guy carrying the can. The two guys who jumped are the two guys from Nightfall. How they got to the point where there was no money I don’t know, I am also no businessman so maybe I am not looking at this in the right way, but their resignations seem a little too well timed to be entirely honest decisions. I don’t believe in coincidences where money and people are concerned. So, no, I don’t think Nightfall Games are swooping in to… Read more »
Daruma existed before they took on the SLA license from Nightfall, so I don’t know how much influence Nightfall had into Daruma’s affairs, indeed SLA was a very small part of Daruma’s portfolio.
Like I said without knowing what has gone on in it’s entirety it’s best to not cast blame. All we know for certain is Daruma is gone and Nightfall is attempting to fulfill the kickstarter, beyond that it’s conjecture.
Well, the two of the directors of Nightfall are (or rather were) also directors of Daruma until May this year. So I am not casting blame any further than “Daruma” – not at individuals. However that includes the current directors of Nightfall as well because of the fact that they were directors during the Kickstarter period. I personally find it highly suspicious that two of them jumped ship such a short time before the announcement that Daruma had gone bust and that the same two are now carrying on the work with someone else. For what it’s worth, I have… Read more »
aye, but we have no idea who they are or what they did there, in the same way Tom Kirby had fuck all to do with Workshop for years until they were down a CEO and he stepped up for a couple of years then retired again. Calling someone cunts just because they were on a board of directors is a bit much.
It’s not the being on the board of directors. It’s the jumping ship at a rather convenient time. I haven’t called anyone a cunt because I don’t have all the details of what went on. But I definitely call shenanigans on it. In terms of their involvement with Daruma, all of the directors were appointed at roughly the same time – August 2015. To me that seems very much like a joint venture. For two people – also involved in another company together – to jump ship at the same time only to then cut a deal with a 3rd… Read more »
IIRC from the history of Nightfall and SLA it was a small start up that used government enterprise funding to get the SLA rpg published. They were brought out by WoTC and managed to publish a few more books. WOTC then divested themselves of RPG’s and Nightfall went back into the hands of some of the original crew.
You might look at this an say Nightfall has a track record of using other peoples money to fund a game designer lifestyle.
Wow! A lot of statements here from people that don’t have a full understanding of the situation. Let me confirm some things for you all: 1. Like a band, Nightfall Games has had a lot of members over the years, but 2 have been there since the beginning and are the creators of SLA Industries. 2. Those 2 joined Daruma with 2 others. The 2 Nightfall fellows were non-executive directors (means were not in charge of the money). 3. A number of individuals over the years have had a beef with Nightfall (for various reasons) and have therefore reason to… Read more »
