Many people have been asking for a rulebook to go with those wonderful miniatures they have been producing as of late. Well, Knights Models has heard your pleas and you can right now download the mini rulebook for Marvel Universe Miniatures Game for free!
Yes, you read that right, for free! Now all you fans of the X-Men, the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy can take those miniatures and fight against the evil of Magneto and any other evildoer that wants to control the world. The contents of the book give all the basic rules and some scenarios to get you started.
This is a great gateway into the Marvel Universe and if this game plays similar to the Batman Miniatures Game, then it should be a grand time by all. You can download the book here.
OK, important question: Marvel or DC?
"...fight against the evil of Magneto and any other evildoer that wants to control the world."

This appears to be a response to the community anger over news that the new Brotherhood crew box would not contain the rules like the existing starters but was being charged at the same level. It would have meant that in order to play the faction you want (any villains) you would also need to buy a hero crew you may not want. KM have now released the rules free which frankly just makes sense as they appear to have no plans for a BMG style printed book. It’s a good move but one that didn’t need to antagonise their… Read more »
There will be a printed book eventually. For BMG, there was only a download available for a quite a while before the printed book was released, and those rules went through a lot of tweaks before it finally went to print. I expect the same thing will happen with MUMG.
I didn’t know that there was so rulebook Brotherhood box, that’s really a stupid thing in my opinion because without this download you would have to buy another box and even now we will not have a Brotherhood Scenario and that’s a shame, i really liked it that the rulebook had a scenario which was fitting for the crew it came with. For playing you still need cards so you have to buy those new sets. And i would say it’s not really similiar to the Batman game, if you are interested i did a review of the Guardians of… Read more »
As games they’re certainly different. BMG attempts to recreate the feel of the Arkham video games on the tabletop, a little clunkily at times, and MUMG is more about scenery-destroying clashes between powerful heroes. I have two of the rulebooks from the Avengers and X-Men starters, but they’re already starting to become out of date as rule tweaks are made. I wouldn’t bother with printed rulebooks in future starters for precisely this reason, and would just have it all online as it was with BMG.
What are they tweaking? Is there a errata? Well every printed book will be out of date at some point if they change/correct things but i liked the idea that you got a starter with a nice small rulebook which included a scenario fitting to your crew, because i like scenarios. Do we know if they will put more things online? Tokens, templates, reference charts new scenarios? I personally think it is sad that they removed all Batman downloads, the rulebook i understand but why the quick reference chart, the crew paper thing, the markers and so on? And the… Read more »
A summary of the FAQs and erratas can be found here – http://pressganger.blogspot.co.uk/2016/06/official-marvel-universe-errata-and-faq.html – (and you can add ‘hosting this on an unofficial blog and not the KM website’ to things that KM really should be sorting out). Whilst a printed rulebook will also date if changes are made, it looks like KM are taking the same route with MUMG that they took with BMG in effectively having an extended open playtest of the rules before going to print with a final version of the rulebook. It makes a living PDF much more useful than the printed mini-books in the… Read more »
“For playing you still need cards so you have to buy those new sets.”
You can find the character stat cards by clicking “Product data sheet” beneath each character/boxset on the knight models store, if that is what you mean.
Nice! Reading the PDF with a tablet is easier than the tiny booklet you get with the miniatures.
However, considering how well produced the BMG rulebook is, I’d be happy to pay for a proper full-sized rulebook.
I am so torn by the last question. I had family in one of former owners of Marvel Comics and they did GI Joe also, the issue is I am more of a fan of the likes of Young Justice, Teen Titans, JL and JSA than any of the Marvel teams. Spider-Man all the way on a solo adventure.
I cant seem to download it here in Australia, no idea why
