The Ridend Barons Of Tor Gaming’s Relics Don Their Armour!
August 8, 2014 by brennon
Tor Gaming has released some more artwork for their new Ridend Faction coming out for the world of Relics. See what you think of these new Barons in their heavy armour with banners fluttering in the wind!
Some more brilliant artwork showing off a nice original looking faction for their game. I love the fact that under all that armour they're essentially little gremlin/goblin creatures but they have this air of gallant knights about them once they've donned the plates of steel. A nice design choice!
Are you tempted back into Relics but these Ridend warriors?

oooh (O . O) can’t wait too see what these will look like 🙂
… have kind of a Rackham feel to them 😀
They have a “Labyrinth” feel to them.
hmmm …. does that mean Rackham has a Labyrnth feel to them (O ,o) ?
… I never thought about that before 😛 your probably right 😉
Possibly lol 😀
These look awesome, Ive been wanting goblins and fey designed by Brian Froud for years, and these totally capture his style 🙂
That’s the chap!
I’ve been tempted to give Relics a go in the past, but never got around to taking the plunge… These wee guys might just tip me over the edge!
They have a Labyrinth feel to them because they are almost identical in style to UK artist Brian Froud’s work. Google image search Goblins of the Labyrinth sketches. Which is not really an ‘original looking faction’ for the game, but one that fans of Frouds work will either love for the inspiration, or hate for the blatant plagiarism.
Too true, too true… 🙁
Now if they named this faction Froudians then it be clear its a tip of the hat to him and fans would more that be willing to support rather that shout out that Relics is plagiarizing his work.
Yes I would say is plagiarism as so far they don’t seem to acknowledge the seed of the design for this army. Unlike some others that have made it clear from the off set such as Jody Siegel that has his company name honor his inspiration Imbrian Arts.
I’d say this is quite obvious about the design inspiration:

Not convinced that these dudes are very Froudian tbh
If you want Froud style goblins try Imbrian Arts

yeah, those minis are just stunning 😉
been wanting to get some for a while, just haven’t gotten around to it yet 😛
They embody Froud’s style alright – they are quite amazing.
But… They’re Goblins. And Froud drew Goblins. So these must be Froudian? Right…?
Seriously though, Froud’s goblins were all curves and ramshackle gear. The Ridend are beaked noses and uniform armour. Did Froud’s work inspire them? Yes, as Tor Gaming themselves have announced on their blog. Plagiarised? Definitely not.
