Rick Priestley Gives His Thoughts On Warlords Of Erehwon
January 29, 2019 by brennon
Warlord Games talked with Rick Priestley about Warlords Of Erehwon. If you missed the video, you can check it out above...
Warren has been getting very excited about this 'generic' Fantasy rule set which has been introduced by Warlord Games and Rick Priestley gives his thoughts on it above. As you might imagine, Warlord has quite the deep reservoir of miniatures for you to draw from when it comes to playing this game with armies of Orcs, Undead, Barbarians and more over on their webstore.
As a warband style game, the focus is on a handful of units battling it out on the tabletop. You can also draw from pretty much any miniatures you have at hand if you want to get stuck in. It's also driven by the Beyond The Gates Of Antares system by Priestley so it's got a lot of familiar facets to its mechanics.
Have you dived in?

I was expecting to be able to write a snarky “Game Designer tells you to buy his game” but that’s not actually what the video says. I’m impressed. And also need to pick up the Warlords of Erewhon rulebook at some point!
it’s got halflings… does Sam know yet ? 😉
The rulebook sold out far faster than I expected. Hope OTT does a playthrough using miniatures they have hanging around to show the rule system. Since the Warlords Of Erehwon is not based on anything and can be anything. I want to see a BoW world. There would be a Warzan faction, and Justin Faction and Sam Faction etc. Then they fight. It would be fun to see a series watching the team battle it out for the golden goblet or whatever you guys have laying around the office. Waiting for my copy to arrive. Hopefully, I can play before… Read more »
I finally got round to completing my TTCombat Halflings Kickstarter Pledge Manager and the rulebook and free promo model were available as part of that, so I was able to order a copy. And luckily I also have a load of Advanced Song of Blades and Heroes Halfings and Dwarves lying around that never see use so I’m sorted for actually playing, on the off chance that ever happens! Looking forward to the book!
Erehwon = “Nowhere” backwards. 🙂
Definitely interested in the this rule set. I always like games that allow me to officially use what I have. I would really like to see the Beasts of War team take on this game and give us some play throughs.
I bought the rulebook and I’ve started reading it. It’s very similar to Gates of Antares, which I play and enjoy immensely.
One plus here is that because it’s not tied to a specific line of miniatures I can cobble together what ever I want.
I’m still looking forward to the Saga Book of Magic and may wind up using that rule set instead but so far, I’m impressed with Warlords of Erewhon.
This looks right up my street. I enjoyed Bolt Action and love a fantasy game that doesn’t tie players to a proprietary line of miniatures. I’ll definitely be picking this up.
Halflings as one of the main lists? @dracs will be happy.
?
Yes. Yes I am.
Got this on release day. Its a beautiful tome even if plagued bh some proofreading errors.
The rules seem solid and the game style is for a few loose units of up to 3-5 individually based models plus individual monsters, war machines etc. A bit 40k-ish in style. Very like Antares and Bolt Action of course for those that have played those games.
Grest stuff. Very accessible. I’m in!
Are there any playthroughs or videos on this ruleset? I am interested, but I would like some more feeling how it plays and so far I have not found any real information on how it works in detail…. Does it have points, how do the forces balance eachother, how does it handle mosters etc.?
There are points and army lists, with restrictions on things like number of heroes, weapon options, etc. I’ve only played once, so far, Elves VS Dwarves, but it seemed relatively well-balanced for the type of game that it is. It doesn’t purport to be very competitive, and I definitely think it would shine most as a narrative game, a little like Mordheim. If they ever included legacy rules for campaigns and warband progression, that’d be a sure hit, I think. Monsters roll on damage charts rather than suffer wounds like infantry, and they get multiple activations a turn. They seem… Read more »
Anything with rick will be worth a look.
Me too. we’re going to be having our first game Monday night. Despite already owning most of the warbands covered in the book you find yourself planning more.
Play through here if anybody is interested.
