Re-Fight The Little Big Horn; Brigade’s Plains War Kickstarter
September 15, 2023 by avernos
Brigade Games' range of historical miniatures is as wide as it is deep and in starting the post-Civil War Plains Wars they are starting with a typically substantial amount of figures that will give anyone beginning their journey into this period most of the figures they'll require to get games of the Little Big Horn onto the tabletop.
U.S. Cavalry Command Mounted
U.S. Cavalry Command, Dismounted.
The new range for Indian Wars covering the period of 1860-1890 has been sculpted by Paul Hicks and the initial campaign is intended to be the beginning of a growing range that will expand out from probably the most famous battle of the conflict, the Little Big Horn.

The packs are either three mounted or six dismounted figures, with additional packs for notable figures from the conflict, including some free packs for backing in the first 48 hours or if you pledge over $90 you can get Lt. Keogh and Cooke featured below.

I think that Keogh may actually be captain Keogh, but it's not an area I know much about. If it is he's notable in that his body wasn't mutilated unlike the rest of Custer's dead which some put down to the discovery of a holy medal on his body. Regardless of the characters they portray Paul has done an outstanding job of producing an exceptional range once again and will be one that I'm certain many will pick up for the tabletop.
Native Americans, 1, Command, Mounted
Protecting their lands in the face of manifest destiny are the plains Indians. The mounted command pack are simply stunning with the detailed headdresses and fraying on tunics they are very much the quintessential warrior from the period to my mind and should paint up a dream.
Native Americans, 2, Rifles, Mounted
Crow Scouts, Dismounted.
This small sample of the initial 70 miniatures gives an indication of what you can expect and the quality of both the sculpts themselves and the subsequent castings are always top notch. So if you have the inclination to take a look at playing out the Indian Wars at 28mm then this could well be your way in. Now I'm off to watch they died with their boots on.

That last picture reminds me of a scene from ‘The Searchers’ – the best Western movie ever made. John Wayne plays Ethan. Ethan’s urge to rescue, yet kill his own niece is dark, very dark.
