PWork Wargames has been working (hah) on all manner of new releases. The first of the ones for this month that we're going to be looking at is the new Apocalypse Land Gaming Mat. This looks like the perfect place for a good tussle in a grimdark future.

The gaming mat comes in a variety of different sizes allowing you to use this for skirmish games through to mass battle clashes. It represents a cracked and blasted landscape which has probably seen too many bombs, a lot of fire and plenty of noxious fumes. It feels like the landscape that might have been formed from the ash of so many burnt bodies and cracked bones.

Coming in a number of different materials like PVC/Vinyl and Neoprene/Rubber, this seems like the perfect gaming mat for games of Warhammer 40,000. I also think this would be great for games which have a post-apocalyptic slant like Punkapocalyptic from Bad Roll Games or the upcoming The Doomed from Osprey Games. Essentially, any game that requires you to have a cracked and blasted landscape would suit this gaming mat.

I really like the idea of using this to represent a bombed-out cityscape but I also think doing something more natural would also suit this mat. You could do flowing rivers of toxic ooze and trees which have been reduced to skeletal limbs, charred and cracked, threatening to break in the howling wind. I feel like that might be a lot more atmospheric!
