FireForge Preview Plastic Byzantine Warriors Coming Soon
April 30, 2017 by brennon
FireForge has given us a heads-up as to what is coming from them next and it looks like we're heading to Byzantium with their new plastic warrior box.
This gives you a look at the standard set up for the troops you'll get in the box wielding spears and some neat shields. I have to say I hadn't really thought much about the arms and armour of Byzantium during the Medieval period but they are looking rather awesome.
There is certainly a mix of both European and Middle-Eastern cultures in there which is cool to see.
Are you interested to see where this goes?

Love ’em 😀 . They will be my go-to mini for a Byzantine Warband in SAGA.
Pretty much summarizes what I thought.
Looks pretty sweet.
Thumbs up! Those will be very useful indeed 😎
Back in those days the Byzantian military was no standing army. It were mainly mercenaries who fought for the Empire. Which btw. called themselves Roman Empire because in fact it was the East Roman Empire.
But nervertheless good looking model. I really like this scale armour and the cuts on the shield which gives the model a bit more realism.
That’s cool. Learning any tidbit of historical information is always a good thing imho 😀 .
They look awesome 🙂
Cambridge Historian wrote a historical fiction about a group of Byzantine diplomats sent to Britain in AD 500. Maybe it would suggest some scenarios:

I am sorry for mentioning this book as its full of mistakes and misconceptions 🙁
and the author criticises the Dal Riatans and the Ulaid 🙁 🙁
Still – imaging a Byzantine Cog getting attacked by a currach flotilla
Very nice.
Fabulous! Waiting on my Scandinavian infantry at the moment.
a Spartan kid could take them they need more.
What are you talking about? Even jabs are supposed to have some kind of connection, don’t they? ^^
Certainly has potential. I’ve been wanting to do a Byzantine army for Saga. To go slong with the 4 other armies I have!
@brennon @kantor72 Getting involved with historical periods via (war) games is a really cool thing. I feel it’s opening your mind just by seeing where people went, how they dealt with each other, what pragmatism and insight in getting along with each other they developed even when religious influence and other believes were much more powerful and might have devided them further. But also the very concrete and basic side of life and culture is really interesting, but usually harder to come by. For me the gate for this was a certain rule set for the Dark Ages by a… Read more »
@darnast
I couldn’t agree more 😀 . Getting into my Vikings has been a joy and learning about all the rulers, forces and battles is just adding so much to it.
in which historical period can these guys be fielded and against whom ?
