James Morris' Midgard Heroic Battles is now available to pre-order from Reisswitz Press ahead of its November release date. You can get your hands on just the Rulebook or you can get a bundle which comes with MDF Tokens for use in battle!
Midgard Heroic Battles Rulebook /// Reisswitz Press
For those not familiar with Midgard Heroic Battles, the game has been designed to be miniature and scale-agnostic allowing you to play with whatever figures you have in your collection. It has also been designed to play both Historical and Fantasy battles with rules for playing out the famous battles of notable figures like Hardrada for example whilst also delving into the epics of Norse Myth, Beowulf, The Illiad and beyond. The world is very much your oyster with this game.
"From veteran gamer James Morris comes a new tabletop miniature wargame rooted in the heroic leadership of Achilles, Boudica and Beowulf. Players take control of a force of warriors and heroes as they build their reputations and crush their enemies through mighty feats of battle. Midgard Heroic Battles can be played in any historical, legendary or fantasy setting where warriors fight it out with swords, spears and shields. From the siege of Troy to the battle of Hastings, from the frost giants of Norse myth to the dwarfs of the mountain halls, from Arthur to El Cid, Midgard places you on the field of battle."
The Rulebook contains all the rules you need to play plus sorcery and flying sections for those eager to dabble in the world of Fantasy. You will also find five full scenarios to play, twelve sample forces and an appendix which helps you build your own armies and heroes.
As an example of the game and what you can do with it, check out this stunning Battle Of Five Armies which was recently at The Other Partisan...

Wild. You can check out more on the blog link above showcasing different ways of playing games using the Midgard Heroic Battles rules.
As well as the Rulebook, you can also get the Bundle as noted earlier which comes with tokens and rulers.

If this has got you excited, you can check out the Midgard Heroic Battles Facebook Group where you can find out more about other people's plans ahead of the release of the game.
You'll also note the stunning artwork for the rulebook that was done by Jon Hodgson and the new logo by Paul Bourne. Midgard is shaping up to be a rather special game that could draw more folks into Fantasy (and Historical) wargaming with the mass of miniatures they have in their collection.
Let us know if you're tempted by Midgard Heroic Battles!

Sounds interesting and a use for some of my many miniatures including Warmachine.
£10 seems bit steep for token sheet if it’s just what is in the picture.
Agree on the token set, does seem a bit steep even if it is the great warbases colour printed mdf.
£30 for the rulebook and then a extra £10 for tokens makes it a fairly costly buy in to try out, not that I think the rulebooks overpriced or anything, if the rules play out well it will be well worth it.
There is also just the rulebook, which saves you that £10 over the bundle price given most wargames have plenty of bits useful for tokens https://toofatlardies.co.uk/product/midgard-heroic-battles-bundle/
That BoFA I’ve seen before, and it’s MIND BLOWING! If these were the rules they used, I’m going to buy multiple copies to give to all my friends. So that is like 3 copies.
Unfortunately… FACEBOOK. Not only am I not on FB, but I’m not going to waste my time getting a FB account to pander to some company too lazy to not make a real website.
Big swing, big miss.
At least I can order it from the ever fun TFL website.
You can also go to the mogsymakes website where there’s plenty more information on Midgard https://mogsymakes.net/midgard/
@brennon THANKS! I have given that page the highest honour: a bookmark.
I think this might be one of the most exciting game concepts I’ve seen in a very long time. I’ve been looking for a game that I can combine all kinds of toys and ideas together. This looks to be it.
EDIT: ordered the bundle!
Looking forward to seeing this one get released, I’ve been fan and following James’s blog and developments for a while so quite excited to see it finally get a date for release. The work on the book looks excellent and the games him and chums have put on at shows exceptional so great to see all the hard work pay off. Be very interested in hearing the wider reviews from those less directly connected to it or the lardies, there’s clearly been some high praise already for the game already but I’ll be keen to seem how it compares to… Read more »
NGL this is letting off some big inspiration fireworks in what’s left of my brain.
I have pre-ordered this, including the pdf, so I should be getting this soon. James Morris is a veteran rules writer, so I have high hopes for this. Also from the videos on the TFL site, the game seems good. I also like the basing system and the fact it is not meant for the competitive scene. I have recently received ‘Shadow Storm’ from the ‘Stand-To-Games’, and I want to see how it compares. If I have time (and the energy!) I might make a quick review and see how they differ from ‘Kings of War’ and ‘Fantastic Battles’ (currently… Read more »
