Plastic Soldier Company Bring New Tanks To The Cold War
June 24, 2017 by dracs
Plastic Soldier Company have been working on some goodies for Cold War games, including two new tanks and the reveal of Battlegroup Northag.
Tanks A Lot
First to be revealed is the T55, a 20mm tank that Plastic Soldier have just put up for pre-order.
The T55 was produced shortly after the end of WWII and swiftly formed the Soviet forces main battle tank, although it never faced off against NATO forces directly.
For their next tank, Plastic Soldier are going to 15mm scale to produce the Leopard 1.
The Leopard 1 was designed in West Germany with fire-power and cross-country performance in mind. It became a staple of the European forces of the time, and vehicles derived from it are still in use in modern day.
Heat Up The Cold War
Perhaps most exciting of all is Plastic Soldier's announcement that they will be starting work on Battlegroup Northag this summer.
This new set of rules should give you everything you need to get stuck into the "what if" scenarios of a Cold War that has heated up a bit, hopefully without those pesky nuclear weapons ruing it for everyone.
These are exactly the kind of alternate history things that tend to capture my interest when looking at historical gaming. I know very little about the Cold War, outside a bit about the conflicts in Asia at the time, so I'm intrigued to see what warfare at this point looked like.
Are you interested in the history of the Cold War? Do you want to try these new rules?

Love it!
This is the perfect mix of Plastic Soldier Company and Cold War Gone Hot. I’ll definitely be investing in some Leopards for the Canadian Army.
Check out @dracs on the historical content! Good job! This is a release I’ve been waiting for. I can’t wait to buy a stack of T-55s for either Arab-Israeli Wars or Cold War. This a tank you will almost certainly have a use for if you’re doing ANY kind of wargaming after 1945. (Okay, except maybe Korea).
I’m learning!
😀
nice.
Gonna hafta pick up a box or umm 5, yeah 5, that will be enough.
Can’t wait to get into the new house and start painting again.
Love Battlegroup, and a chance to go back and do 20mm Cold War is extremely exciting. Going to be jumping in on this very happily!
Good, good. Plastic Leopard 1’s were kind of to be expected given that Battlefront went resin and West German Team Yankee forces can field so many Leo 1s – I’ll happily pick up some.
Battlegroup Northag is a very pleasant surprise though. Even if I haven’t gotten to play Battlegroup in its WW2 setting yet and won’t for some time I liked the rules and the books are just fantastic quality.
Looking forward to seeing what Battlegroup will do with their slightly smaller-scale, more thoughtful interpretation of this (potential) conflict.
Finally! I’ll definitely be picking this up!
Will pick this up if they release Swedish forces!
