Would You Like To See Corvus Belli Create A Fantasy Game?
August 9, 2016 by brennon
Corvus Belli are well known for Infinity but would you like to see them branching out into the world of Fantasy? Well, a few snippets from their Gen Con talk explored this possibility...
This was them testing the waters to see what the reaction might be towards them branching out in this way. A Fantasy wargame certainly sounds interesting and with the sculpting prowess they possess it could provide you with some amazing figures.
The other idea that was floated was that of a dungeon crawler.
Once again it would be interesting to see what Corvus Belli did on this front. With a plethora of other systems out there right now they'd need to do something different and unique to draw people in.
Of course all of these are just ideas right now but we'd love to know what you think. You could either drop your thoughts into the comments below or this forum thread HERE by @emptynessisform.
Let us know what you think!

Infinity Dungeon Crawler? Look to similar TT~Boardgame crossovers such as: Space Hulk and similar New GW board games; Mercs & Mercs Recon… even Dungeon Crawler.
Fantasy SKirmish using Infinity d20 face-offs. Intriguing idea. I like the ARO; face-to-face roll off mechanisms of Infinity that would work well in any setting, including Fantasy. Hacking isn’t that different from ‘Magic’ and melee and ranged is covered.
In principle fantasy does not intrigue me if I have faith in a company doing it right and appealing for me it would be CB, infinity dungeon crawler on the other hand? YES! YES! YES!
Well yes 🙂 just make it plastic and thats a win
^Make it plastic and not as ridiculously complicated as Infinity and maybe its worth a look.
They had a fair few other ideas in their ‘notebook’ too, including a remote racing game, Infinity Deathmatch, and ‘DogBowl’. Combined Army v ALEPH was floated for the next Operation box.
Also Aristeia all intriguing ideas.
I would find a fantasy game very interesting but as to the rest of the stuff on their suggestion list…nope.
An INFINITY deck building game could be a good shout for them. Fantasy wise, possibly a small warband ‘Frostgrave’ type of game could be cool. There’s still a lot they could do with their INFINITY I.P though so maybe find ways to expand the game range there.
Right now I’d like to see anyone make a fantasy game I actually like the look of. The style of fantasy I actually like seems to be very much against the current fashion. I like the old style of dark age mythology inspired fantasy. You know, the kind of thing that Peter Jackson doesn’t understand that Lotrs is supposed to be but Oliver Postgate totally got when he made Noggin the Nog 🙂
These days it mostly seems to be steampunk dwarfs and green bodybuilders for monsters.
Yeah, orcs have got way too big. They’ll be the size of Peter Jackson trolls in a few years.
Something like Darklands? I totally agree about the body builder orcs, I removed them all from my wfb Orc&Goblin army and await the day when someone releases nice skinny nasty orcs in plastic (or resin if cheap enough).
Personally I avoid all mention of orcs. I refereed various pen and paper RPGs for about 10 years without ever using a so much as a single Orc. They’re just too Tolkien.
I would love to see a skirmish game that was set in a large fantasy city, and it was basically competing thief, assassin and wizard guilds fighting over the city.
How about ‘Nice’ Humans vs Vampires vs Werewolves vs ‘Bad’ Humans … absolutely no Orcs/Orx/Orks or other variant… maybe gremlins and other familiars maybe if incorporated correctly (Fast Panda/repeater?).
This is starting to sound like Carnevale if I’m not careful…
Carlos said at the seminar that the fantasy is something they want to do, but they need to grow a bit more as a company first.
Simpler rules then Infinity (they’re just too fiddly for my taste) and less anime inspired miniatures (I really, really don’t like anime), then I might be interested in a fantasy skirmish game from Corvus Belli.
Some things could do with a bit of a tidy up / be made more streamlined (I doubt I’d use hackers without captain spuds help) but you’re going to be waiting a real long time if you don’t want Infinity to not have a strong anime theme. You’d probably have more luck in wishing for no skulls in 40k,
The Infinity fluff has described a blockade in space trying to prevent the Combined Army from landing ever larger forces. I’ve half expected a game based on that to be coming. I suppose the market for that is pretty full but then so is the market for dungeon crawlers. Still I’ve thought for some time now they could expand their current roster of games set in the Infinity universe. Perhaps the success of Modiphius’s Infinity RPG on kickstarter has given them reason to believe a bit more in that scale of their fanbase. All that said I hope they’ve got… Read more »
I wouldn’t mind seeing a well done Space Crawler. Not just Space Hulk but more in-depth on large ships, spy missions, etc.
Yeah that’d be cool. Something with more of a multiplayer option as well. Their sculpts each have so much character.
You mean like the Modiphius RPG only with more minis 😉
Hmmmm an infinity dungeon crawler would be awesome, especially if the dungeon is more a cyberspace virtuality, that would lend itself rather well to a GItS/Neuromancer type of thing, and would be completely different in terms of setting compared to other sci-fi crawlers….
Fantasy could be fun, but i suspect it would be easier to bring to market stuff set in the infinity universe as thats more of a known quantity in terms of investment.
I wish they would have kept/developed their historical line. I don’t really blame them for jumping on infinity as its FAR more popular than their historical minis were but I do miss them.
Going forward I think they should do a 15mm or 20mm mass battle game using the infinity IP.
After de delays of the rolgame I wouldn´t risk a new project. My personal opinion.
Hopefully it will be less complicated than Infinity. If anybody needs a 258 page long fantasy miniature game rulebook…. Well D&D and Pathfinder will do the job ^^
Count me instantly in when they manage to produce rules that are as attractive as their miniatures!
Darklands is a miniatures game with a 350 pages just of rules in its rulebook. I kid you not.
I would like to have the Aristeia game, the racing game and the Dungeon Crawler.
Anyone know where we can watch the seminar? I saw a youtube vid but the quality was super bad. BOW had it up last year but I cant see anything at present.
As for another fantasy game that is probably the last thing the industry needs. Hopefully they make something truly unique instead!
Yeah I couldn’t make out what Carlos was saying on that video. I think Dawn and Gianna commented about filming it at some point during the Gencon coverage.
In terms of quality, I think Corvus Belli would do a beautiful fantasy game… a thorough approach to rules, fantastic models. That being said, I don’t want them to go that route: aside from the fact that I don’t think that game would have the same market success as Infinity did when it appeared back when it did as a breath of fresh air, the things which make CB so good when it comes to Infinity become a problem if a second miniatures game is added: they take a long time to get the art right, the sculpts right, and… Read more »
A fantasy game with opposed rolls to represent frantic duels could be fun. But I’m wondering what flavor of fantasy they should go for. Perhaps ancient oriental with a touch of Samurai Shamploo mixed in.
I’m not sure if an Infinity dungeon crawler is needed. You can already create that with a spaceship board and a custom scenario.
Chain rifles, grenades and flame throwers for everyone!
The Infinity “Dungeon Crawler” would be a great opportunity to sell a ” rules light” game that would allow to use their miniatures. A good entry point or a rally point for gamer’s that are interested in less complex game mechanics while still benefiting from their gorgeous miniature range.
See Mercs ~ Mercs:Recon // 40K ~ Space Hulk ??
If they marry the ‘Operation’ starter boxes with some Dire Foes I think they’re done.
Yes, please, both in skirmish and mass combat! With GW circling the drain in fantasy someone has to pick up the slack!
Also, there’s not a hope GW can compete in terms of quality… hurry!
Circling the drain? Their sales are up massively in the fantasy market aren’t they?
For a guy who seems to generally hate GW’s range, Cpauls1 loves the opportunity to tell people at every chance he can (despite this being a thread about Corvus Belli).
Check every comment section about a GW release / rumour and you’ll find him there. I don’t know why he feels the need to post the same thing time and time again.

Hmm, rather see Infinity stick with the cyberpunk realm. Several anime that I think they could grab a hold of and make tremendous models/game systems for. If they want to do a dungeon crawler, maybe present a fresh look at the genera? How about a futuristic cyber net crawl instead? Get in bed with FFG and do an Android miniatures game? Or maybe they’re just looking for an excuse to start releasing fantasy figures so they can become the defacto standard models for all those RPG games our there.
No not really, they are good at doing what they do with Infinity. With so many different shades of fantasy games out there what would they bring to the table. Many of the suggests here are to do something like XYZ which isn’t going to going far. That being said CB will at some point need to come up with something new to compliment Infinity as that alone won’t keep them going for ever.
thanks ben infinity is brain busting heavy rules wise and I know it gives some people headaches. but infinity has a bid enough fan base to suggest there is a large enough portion of the gaming community that think the meatier the better as far as rules go. bens not wrong about how competitive fantasy and all other genre have gotten these days. which as of the weekend just got hotter still. i think it will come down to timing if they see it through. the current hype around the new releases will have died down by the time anything… Read more »
