Planet 28, the awesome Sci-Fi skirmish miniatures game is now back on Kickstarter from Nic Evans of Mammoth Miniatures. The aim is to get a 2nd Edition of the game out there in the wild for those seeking to play out some violent, grimdark scuffles but with more options!

Full disclosure! I have already backed this one so bear that in mind when reading through this particular article. Anyway, Planet 28 is back from Nic Evans collecting together all of the previously published material alongside new options for players. You'll be able to pick up the new edition of the game either digitally OR in a lovely A5 hardback book!

Planet 28 is a Sci-Fi skirmish game that could fit into all manner of different settings. It draws its inspiration from the Inq28/Inquisimunda community and the grimdark worlds of Warhammer 40,000 but could easily be used to represent all manner of different worlds. A lot of folks have been using it to play out a quicker and easier version of Inquisitor (in 28mm scale) but you could easily use this to represent any world you like, even something entirely original.

You can learn more about the game itself and how it plays HERE as part of my review for the game. The important thing to take away from Planet 28 is that it can be used for solo gaming, cooperative play, one-off scraps between gangs in a skirmish OR turned into a longer running campaign.

The updated edition will collect together the core rules, campaign system, character and vehicle creation, the aforementioned solo and cooperative rules and much more. New exotic weapons, character abilities and advanced rules are in play alongside rules for fielding full squads and creating demonic weaponry! There are also going to be environmental rules for fighting on harsh worlds.

The book is also going to be packed with more of their hyper-violent artwork (woot!) and much more.

Stretch Goal Options

As well as the core rules, the campaign has also managed to raise enough money to add plenty more into the mix. A set of paper miniatures are going to be included with each pledge so that you can get gaming very quickly. You'll also be able to get your hands on this, Death In The Throne Room...

Death In The Throne Room - Planet 28

Death In The Throne Room // Planet 28

This new supplement dives into the depravity, violence and intrigue happening on the world of Neo-Trantor...

"For thousands of years, the pleasure world of Neo-Trantor has been the seat of power throughout the galaxy. Within its marble galleries and gene-tended gardens, the galactic emperor holds court, and around him, a thousand courtiers, supplicants and serfs vie for power and influence. Of course, Death comes for everyone, even emperors - and with his sudden demise, a power vacuum has emerged. Anyone strong enough to fill it can claim dominion over the entire galaxy, provided they can stay alive long enough to cement their claim..."

This sounds very cool and I like the idea of using this as a guide to your ongoing adventures within Planet 28. I reckon this could be good for those wanting to theme their particular skirmishing warband to fit one of the warring houses. Additionally, it might provide some fun background for more roleplay-based tabletop encounters.

For those interested in giving the game a go, the core rules will be presented digitally for free and the mechanics of Planet 28 are meant to be chopped up and twisted by the larger community. Much like the inspiration for the game, it is designed to be "kit-bashed".

Are you tempted by Planet 28: 2nd Edition?
