Perry Protects The King With Armoured Foot Knights Soon
June 16, 2014 by brennon
Perry Miniatures have shown off the new artwork for their upcoming plastic Foot Knights and it has Richard III fighting for his life against an array of enemies...
The piece was done by Peter Dennis who has done a massive amount of historical artwork and is certainly one of the best. You see his artwork on Warlord and Perry Miniatures products all the time.
Richard III has been wonderfully represented here according to the new information we have about his face from recent reconstructions and in armour of the period. The new plastic set is heading off to be made as we speak so it shouldn't take too long for it to arrive!
What do you think?
These have been on the Perrys’ workbench for quite a while. It’s nice to know that their release will be soon. And by “soon”, I don’t mean next year 🙂
Oh no. This won’t do at all… wallet opening… must fight impulsive urge. No… more… Perry figures. Ah, it’s no use. A few hundred more won’t hurt.
Annddd… more options for a WFB Empire army at realistic prices 😉
Hmmm… might be a bit small. They’re 28mm but not heroic scale. Actually, they would likely fit in better with the Brettonian fellows. If Perry came out with HRE figures you’d be in business for a cheap Empire horde! The prices are hard to beat.
I shall be buying some of these, how could you resist at approx 50p a figure heroic scale or not
No use for them at the moment but that wont stop me
What is HRE please?
Holy Roman Empire, essentially medieval Germany and the surrounding area, down to the rich trading cities of northern Italy, like Milan and Venice. The Emperor’s hold was always tenuous there, however, and they fought several wars. GW’s Empire mini’s are patterned after late HRE armies.
You’re right. Hard to beat the price. I’ve seen many people on here try to justify the cost of GW’s figures by quoting costs for producing box sets, yet Perry Brothers consistently come up with figures that are equal to or better than GW ones for far less money.
GW’s Empire minis started out life as landsknechts. No guesses for who sculpted them. To be fair to GW, their prices have to cover the costs of running a worldwide company with 2000 staff. The Perrys sculpt these minis in their spare time and only need to cover their costs.
Sorry, should have included the term ‘Landsknecht’ in there.. Didn’t realize I was being graded.
I don’t really care why they’re cheaper. Just glad they are. The pile can always use a few more boxes lol. Can’t wait for them to come out.
Thanks
Even after 30 years its nice to learn a new abbreviation
The Perry’s still moonlight for the great satan in Nottingham don’t they? Reading between the lines (my hopeless optimisim at play) might strongly suggest then that Brettonians might be on the horizon?
It’s been rumoured elsewhere but a release like this might be an oportunistic one.
Bring on the snail chomping, frog bashing, horse merchants! 😀
I might also add that these models sound like they will be winners, big fan of the Perry twins!
I think things have gone past the rumour mill, and I agree, the release is more than coincidence. If there was ever an affordable alternative to what is bound to be another grope at the wallets of loyal GW types, this is it. I’ve already bought several boxes of the Perrys’ medieval cavalry and infantry, and am quite happy with them. I own a lot of Brettonian stuff, mostly the older plastic pieces that I got for a song on EBay, and for command groups there’s no point in going beyond Gamezone’s ‘Empire’ and ‘Feudal’ ranges. They are cheaper, metal,… Read more »
They work full-time for GW. Their day job doesn’t allow them to indulge their passion for historical minis so they do it in their spare time. I seriously doubt that they’re releasing these to cash in on a Brets release. They sculpt what interests them, not to make money. Picking up on the earlier comments on the Empire, the Brets started out life as HYW minis. Once again, no guesses as to who sculpted them.
Interesting to learn that they’re still full time with the Workshop, along with their massive historical range they must be amongst the most prolific miniature sculptors in the world!?!
They’ve been sculpting historical minis on the side since the 1980s. They just did it for Foundry before they started their own company. IIRC they can sculpt an average of one historical mini per day when sculpting on evenings and weekends. I don’t think they get to do very much gaming.
I don’t own any Brettonian stuff but I’m clamouring to start. I really do love the concept but the decidedly ancient (by industry standards) models available at GW have meant that I’ve chased up other modeling projects.
Perry’s War of the Roses stuff is excellent and depending on availability (and If I even like the look!) of GW’s new Bret stuff at discounters, it may be the way I go for putting together a Bret army over the next few months.
Like @cpauls1 says, these will be noticeably smaller than GW Brets. If you mix models from both ranges, especially infantry and cavalry, then it may look uneven.
I saw this picture and thought I recognized the artist (I always look at the pictures before I read, yes, I am still five years old 🙂 ) Don’t know much about these minis but this artist has done loads of terrific paintings, he’s probably half the reason I’ve collected so many of those great little Osprey history books.
I think the closest Osprey book I have to this period would be Otterburn, 1388? Yet another Borderlands war and the famous duel between Hotspur and James Douglas?
It might be the closest book you have, but I’d say Osprey’s Wars of the Roses books would be closer 😉
I’m really gonna have to knuckle down and crack some books on the Wars of the Roses one of these years.
TBH me too 🙂 For someone who’s known to wear a hat with the red rose of Lancashire, my knowledge leaves a lot to be desired.
The Military Campaigns of the Wars of the Roses by Phillip Haigh isnt a bad book

Quite ironic really, Friday the 13th was the anniversary of the execution of Lord Hastings. Richard Duke of Gloucester stormed the council chamber, had him arrested, dragged outside then lopped his head off. Richard III’s usurpation began right there… hehee!
Love the Perry’s, truly make some fantastic stuff – been waiting for these foot knights for what seems to be an age…
with this release, Anyone wanting a really beautiful, affordable Kingdoms of Men army for Kings of War will have a lovely variety of stuff to choose from from Perry.
