July 21, 2020 by brennon
Perry Miniatures have been working on the War Of The Triple Alliance recently but they also have some work-in-progress Historical miniatures to share for the Franco Prussian War of 1870-71 too.
Franco Prussian War Prussian Infantry // Perry Miniatures
This collection is going to cover both the Prussian and French Infantry (to begin with) in plastic. The two boxes will be packed with sprues which give you ways to build soldiers who are marching with rifles at rest plus elements which also mean you can set up soldiers who are in firing lines and skirmishing.

There isn't a date set for their release but the 3-Up work is looking very good, as is usually the case with the miniatures from the Perry Twins. The sculpts themselves come from Michael whilst the rifles were provided by Rob Mcfarlane.
Once again, much like most of the ranges for this period of the late-1800s, you've got a nice mix of uniforms which are a little showy but also starting to become more functional. You've also got some rather impressive facial hair on display including rather prim and proper moustaches and beards. They will be very rewarding to paint!
Are you going to be snapping these up?

So excited!!! Doing the infantry in two sets like the ACW kits is a great idea, can’t wait to field a couple of Sharpe Practice forces on the cheap with these plastics, be a great way to introduce friends into Victorian era gaming without having to visit the particular horrors of colonial warfare. With Wargames Atlantics new plastic great war Germans I’m feeling almost spoilt for choice! From the historical perspective, the lessons learnt from the Franco-Prussian war and the geopolitical impact it had would lay much of the framework for international relations in the final quarter of the 19th… Read more »
They look fabulous for gamers and diorama maker’s.
These are grand, one of my favourite books is Alister Horns Fall of Paris, so with these and a few additions you could play through the Paris Commune as well as the Franco Prussian War.
that’s a great idea! then again, likely I’ll now be mumbling l’internationale the rest of the evening…
LoL I was whistling it earlier @bigdave, I’d love to hold a skirmish game with a Paris mobile unit headed by Gustave Flourens or Sapia defending the barricades or moving though a street fight. Recommend the book it’s dated but still a great read.
Definitely! Need to find some decent armed civilians, I think Foundry has some but plenty of time to look around. The American Civil War plastics may be a good source for conversions, used them as a basis for Royal Navy sailors before as well as Ottoman Nizam i Cedid so armed citizenry shouldn’t be much of a stretch.
That’s a grand idea, I have looked at the foundry minis but seem a bit dated (I’m too picky in this I know) but like the idea of the conversation possibility ?
Looking forward to this. One of those wars that doesn’t get as much attention
Hmm. this for VSF fantasy Germans and French along with the WA WW1 Germans are now a good deal closer to my “to buy” list. of course Perry’s is also doing some Plastic Afghans set for August, wonder if they will mix well with my WA Afghans.
From experience I reckon the WA will be a bit chunkier but I reckon they should mix easily enough on a base.
Battle of Battle of Gravelotte or any of the others would look impressive but probably impossible in 28mm
The figures do look nice though
