Perry Miniatures Mount Up With WWII Yeomanry Cavalry
January 20, 2016 by brennon
Perry Miniatures have assembled a new range of models for you to use as part of your World War II British army. These aren't your typical soldiers though, these are mounted Yeomanry Cavalry from North Somerset and Cheshire!
The Yeomanry Cavalry were used for patrolling areas of the terrain that were harder to get to on foot and with vehicles. While they probably rarely saw action the Perry twins noted that in one particular instance they did charge a Vichy held village but the enemy were on the point of surrendering already and it seems it was more of a shock tactic.
It's nice, and somewhat strange, to know that even in World War II the armies of the time (with all their modern technology) were still working with horses and had regiments mounted up and ready to attack with swords. I don't imagine many cavalry charges would have gone too well against machine gun fire and tanks however.
The thundering charge of cavalry in battle had all but faded by this time but I'm sure that they could easily be used for skirmishing against enemy patrols. Being able to strike with rifles from horseback and then flee would make for some good ambushing tactics.
Will you be adding them to your army?

Last recorded mounted attack by the U.S. 26th Cavalry Regiment against the Japanese in the Philipines. Actually worked.
Germany and Russia used cavalry until the end of the war to provide mobility. They’d ride to the edge of the battle area then dismount to fight then remount and move on to the next objective.
Ooo! Could be an interesting addition to one of the VBCW factions. I assume there will be some options for changing heads, so well done Perrys
would look great for that, nice dark-uniformed fascist cavalry of the BUF 😉
They did have a squad of home guard cavalry where I’m from, the old cavalry veterans of the First World War formed it (just sort of carried on with what they knew), they’d scout and forage on behalf of the infantry. Mind you, they did practice sabre drawn cavalry charges down the hillside nr St Peter’s church XD
utterly crackers but as Brennon says, 100% accurate.
@applemark that was my thoughts, good cavalry for VBCW or even a mounted Home Guard Unit for WW2
looks good.
As prev mentioned by everyone else, def on the cards for VBCW but not fascist forces for me. These are for my DLC militia (affiliated with the Gateshead and Newcastle Workers Freedom Cooperative Militia).
