Paranoid Miniatures Shows Off An Early Character Card

One of the greatest things about getting involved with a Kickstarter is having the ability to influence parts of the game, especially when you have a company so willing to listen to their backers.
Today Paranoid Miniatures is giving their first look at a potential character card for one of the models in their successful project, Mythos. Here's an example of what they're thinking, featuring Professor Lazarus, and now they're asking for your help in the way of feedback.
They'd love to know what you think of the overall look of the card including details like, the overall look, readability, special abilities, stats or anything else that's important to you on a character card.
Something to note is the wound and sanity tracker are no longer on the card but will be on a separate card with all five faction members. This will stop you having to transfer details from one side of a character card to the other and will allow you and your opponent an easy to see snapshot of where a character's WND and SAN is at.
Personally, I'm a huge fan of the dark background with the white lettering. It's different and really makes the card pop and I LOVE the idea of having wounds and sanity on one card with all faction members - nice and tidy, all in one place.
What do you think of Paranoid Miniatures' first pass at their character cards?

I must say the front seems a bit “busy”. I can see all the text blurring together a few feet away while this card is sitting on the table. If you’re going to be constantly picking up cards to read them then they might as well move some of this info to the back to decrease clutter.
Thanks for the comment @spaderfish. Unfortunately one of the game mechanics allows you to play both sides of a character’s card depending on certain triggers or if the character has gone insane. Each side of the character card tends to have a number of differences some of which are small, others whole new abilities depending on the character. I will say that the faction leaders, of which Professor Zachary Lazarus is one, do tend to have more rules than most due to their role. From what you have commented we will look at trying to simplify and condense the language… Read more »
I think the key will depend on how the special abilities are presented. If there is a master list of abilities, and game balance is achieved by limiting who gets what, then you might solve this problem by just putting the ability names on the card and the corresponding rules in the back of the book. As most fans will probably have more than one faction, they will come to learn what the abilities are and, after a while, no longer need to reference the book. I find this method also tends to speed up play as both players have… Read more »
That’s great to hear and echoes some of our thoughts too, which is really good to have as a response in the comments. We had decided some abilities would essentially become keywords, with a keywords cheat sheet as a card to help with speedy gameplay until players got used to them. It’s an interesting balancing act and one we are still working on to finalise. We still playtest regularly pitching different factions against one another, those that reached their funding goals and those we had designed which didn’t. We will finalise on a sweet spot and hopefully this will be… Read more »
I cant wait for this game to come out!
Neither can we hehe 😀
