Osprey’s Dragon Rampant Now Available For Pre-Order
October 3, 2015 by brennon
Available in December 2015 Dragon Rampant is now up for pre-order from Osprey Games. If you're looking for a Fantasy twist on Lion Rampant then you'll want to take a closer look at this book...
So what's within the pages of this new tome?
"Whether you're a nameless Dark Lord looking to conquer the known world, a Champion of Light holding out against the forces of evil or a Northern barbarian facing claimants to a stolen throne, Dragon Rampant allows you to bring those battles to the tabletop.
Developed from the popular Lion Rampant system, Dragon Rampant is a standalone wargame that recreates the great battles of Fantasy fiction. Scenarios, army lists, and full rules for magic and monsters give players the opportunity to command unruly orc warbands, raise armies of the undead, campaign across an antediluvian world as the warchief of a barbarian tribe, or exploit the power of mighty creatures and extraordinary sorcery.
An army usually consists of 6-8 units comprised of 6-12 individually based figures. These small units move and fight independently, assuming that they follow your orders rather than just doing their own thing. Command and control is just as important on the battlefield as the power of a troll chieftain or the magic of an archmage."
All of the above sounds very good indeed and it will be interesting to see if this can help fill the gap left by Warhammer Fantasy leaving the scene. Kings of War is out there but not everyone is happy with it. This provides another neat alternative.
Will you be picking this up?

I like the osprey wargaming range of rules in general. Why? Well they are not a generic add on, they are all stand alone very much. It is true that some of the mechanics of course bare similar thread to fasten the differing parts together to make a whole. Dice, rulers and the like, line of sight and frequently movement. Then the made to measure tayloring of the game itself, the objectives what the game is about, it is more transient than fluff. It’s the lining the luxury that is invisible, who wares a made to measure suit inside out… Read more »
I am a big fan of Lion Rampant of which this is a Fantasy version. These are not really mass battle games. You can field large armies of course but the sweet spot is somewhat larger than SAGA games and smaller than KoW. If anything I’d say this is an alternative to Age of Sigmar. I’ll be asking for a copy for the holidays.
Yeah I think these will be bought
There will be a lot of us who already have enough figures for a game on this scale. I can see this being a popular buy.
More reasons to dig my old vampire counts out of the family basement.
I’ve been waiting for this game. Lion Rampart is a fantastic game and hopefully this will deal with the fantasy itch I’ve had since I stopped playing warhamer at 7th edition.
I’ve not tried Lion Rampant and KoW is my first fantasy game but I may give this one a look.
