Osprey Do Some Swashbuckling With En Garde Rules Set
July 17, 2015 by brennon
North Star have revealed that there is a musketeer era wargame coming out next year from Osprey Publishing/Games called En Garde. You can see the cover for the book below which certainly gives you a taster of the period...
As you can see by the tagline underneath this is going to be another skirmish level game for you to use your growing collection of cool models in. I think this is going to be a nice addition to their repertoire and hopefully we'll see some characters based off the BBC versions of the Musketeers popping up.
Would you pick this up?

Cool. I hope that saying “en garde!” will be obligatory in the game
WarBases already do a set of Musketeers based on the BBC series. They are rather nice.
There might be a Nickstarter for this according to North Star’s Facebook
It’s nice to see Osprey publishing yet another set of rules. Swashbuckling isn’t really my period, but given the quality of previous skirmish games from Osprey I might actually pick this one up.
I’m old enough to remember the En Garde role playing game…
…me too – I once rolled the perfect ‘renaissance man’ for a character – died the second game!
Still did better than most of my original Traveller characters-they died in character generation.
Me three–first thing I thought of when I read the title.
How many games have this name now? Isn’t there also a card game and a sort of miniatures on a strip board kind of thing?
There was a board game with the same name, made by Reiner Knizia in 1993. Also, check out Flash Duel by Sirlin Games which plays pretty much the same but adds special abilities.
Osprey are publishing rule books at a rate that’s difficult to keep up with. I’ll try my best though
One thing that’s been announced is that this is an evolution of the system from Ronin that is supposed to be capable of working either way with a minor bit of work to expand forces available…was announced by the writer on the Ronin forum…

A new Osprey skirmish game? Yes, I’ll pick this up! All I need now is to find someone interested in playing who can show up for a game once in a while.
