Osprey Prepare You for the War of the Worlds
August 31, 2015 by dracs
Osprey Publishing are preparing to come out with a new source book, detailing the horrific events of the martian invasion we all now know as the War of the Worlds.
In this source book, Mark Brunt takes a look at how the fighting went between the British Army and the alien invaders, exploring further into their technologies and tactics to give us a comprehensive guide to the 1895 war.
This book covers the whole of the Anglo-Martian conflict, beginning with a look at the relative strengths and weakness of the two armies, both English and alien, and comparing the different strategies employed. It then takes a detailed look at the actual military struggle, covering all of the major engagements between the tripods and Victoria's army.
There can be no doubt that H.G. Well's War of the Worlds is one of the most influential science fiction books of the time, and as All's Quiet on the Martian Front demonstrated, is the perfect set up for war gaming.
This sourcebook is currently up for pre-order and set for release from Osprey on November 20th. It should definitely give gamers a few ideas for creating some new scenarios and battles between the two factions, as well as just being a fun read in itself.
Will you grab a gun and stand against the Martians?

Pretty interesting. I wonder if the initial British forces are based on the actual military strength available in the 1890s. Then I imagine there would have been a serious draft effort once the invasion was underway.
Although wasn’t the human military no match for the alien machines?
A few snotty tissues and coughing without covering your mouth and the aliens are finished.
Will watch this Osprey project with interest.
It sounds like they’re writing the war as if it was actual history. I love it when authors do this with conjectural or alternate history, it makes the scenario presented seem that much more plausible.
At our club we just started a Campaign start date 1st August 1880 you can catch it at this Blog
