Osprey Look Ahead To Honours Of War Release Soon
November 3, 2015 by brennon
Osprey are looking ahead to the release of their Honours Of War rulebook which takes you back to the Seven Years' War. You can get your hands on the book from November 20th....
Some more on this era...
"The Seven Years' War was the pinnacle of 18th-century warfare, with dramatic campaigns and battles, famous leaders, and wide variety of colourful uniforms. Compared with the later Napoleonic Wars, tactics were simpler, armies more professional, and battles tended to be smaller. Using these quick-to-learn rules, players can bring this period to the tabletop, recreating anything from a small skirmish to a major pitched battle.
Although simple, the rules allow for a wide range of tactics and reward historical play.
That said, fog of war sometimes produces unexpected results and units don't always obey their orders! The game moves quickly, and players must be prepared to regroup and counterattack or to press home an advantage - a lot can happen in one move!"
This sounds like it could be a lot of fun and Osprey are certainly offering a lot of chances to get stuck into many, many different eras of warfare with relative ease. Their books are priced well and the layouts are easy to read through. I recently picked up the Black Ops book and it's a good read.
You can also get the free Fredrick the Great model you see above when you order through North Star.
Will you be getting this?

Already ordered mine. The Amazons says it’ll arrive on the 17th along with the new Frostgrave book!
Perry and WGF/Warlord have plastic AWI troops that can be used, especially the Woodland Indians set.
A great option in metal is Blue Moon which has a whole line of 28mm and if I recall 15mm FIW/7yW troops and characters. They even have sets for George Washingtons first battle. They make colonial era civilians too.
I don’t recall if Muskets and Tomahawks/Gripping Beast have an official line of minis but if they do it’s another good source.
I forgot to mention 4Ground has an excellent line of 28mm buildings for this era. I want to get a few New France cabins and build a small frontier town.
Galloping Major has excellent minis for FIW!
But where are the plastics for this era?? I’d love to field huge battalions of Prussian Grenadiers!
Wargames Factory used to make War of the Spanish succession infantry, cavalry and artillery in multi part plastics. Don’t know what’s going to happen to the ranges now that Warlord took over.
Although SYW was popular years ago especially when relating to imagi nations campaigns I think it’s dropped out of favour a little . There are still some nice ranges in 15mm Blue Moon And Eureka spring to mind. Pendraken and Baccus do some nice ranges in 10 and 6mm respectively
Front Rank do some lovely figures in 28mm as well
Their battalion packs of 24 figures work out at £1.10 per figure
