An Ocean Liner Fitted for War from Spartan Games
April 16, 2012 by brennon
In the spirit of a certain ship going down Spartan Games have released some information on an upcoming Troop Carrier, the Olympic for Dystopian Wars...
"Technological Advancement at its Finest
The Olympic Liner is one of the largest passenger ships ever created. Built at the massive Proctor & Mercer Shipyards in Middlesbrough, in the North East of Britannia, these impressive vessels have carried people over the seas in style since 1861. Proctor & Mercer built and sold over 30 of these majestic vessels around the world; every nation clambering to own and operate their own fleet of luxury cruise liners. One of the main selling points is the advanced technological design, and claimed robustness of the ship's hull.
However, the outbreak of world war saw many of the Olympic Liners refitted to fulfil a new role, that of a troop carrier. With its sleek lines and pioneering keel design, the Olympic Class Troop Transport cuts through the water at high speed, allowing it to efficiently deliver thousands of troops to war zones around the globe. It is not uncommon to see these giants of the sea being escorted by both a naval vanguard and fleet of aerial support craft en route to war."
Not bad at all. I can already think up a fair few scenarios for Dystopian Wars using this particular piece of kit. The actual model looks great, a good mix of classical engineering and steampunk additions. A great model to add to the high seas.
Will you be picking one up?
Yup I want one
I like the subtlety of that added steampunk bling round the funnels – the fact that this ship is more realistic than regular DW military vessels makes the setting more plausible and thus more immersive. Oh and just FYI – not that you’d need to know this as the hull of that ship is of course completely unsinkable – hot wire cutters and foamcore or styrofoam should make great icebergs. I’d suggest rocks too as they have more realistic jagged edges than clean cut foamcore and will take a drybrush of light blue over white better but well…try sanding them… Read more »
Nah! No Kate Winslet on the prow. 🙁
Thank God that she’s not on the front.
This is a nice model and seems to be open to all nations to have as it says they all had them before war started.
Maybe not, but on the upside, no Dicaprio either.
Not a dystopian wars player, but I do like that model.
Interesting to see passenger ship in Dystopian Wars. Granted that these are used as troop transports so its off limits to Dicaprio.
well they got the class of ship right, would have been better if they said it was a hospital ship instead of a troop transport.
wonder who gets why i said that…
So we’ve seen the troop transport, the landing barges – how long until we see Infantry tokens?
