Obidiah’s Army Returns To Fantasy World Of Flintloque
March 8, 2021 by brennon
Alternative Armies has re-released some of their sets of classic miniatures for the world of Flintloque. If you're into the weird and wonderful then these might have already popped up on your radar.
General Obidiah Hogswill // Alternative Armies
The leader of this little set of releases is one Obidiah Hogswill who leads the famed Army Of Deserters. Made up of brigands, ruffians and the dispossessed, they are ready to dive into games like Slaughterloo and more.
The core of this re-release centres around the sale of these new sets like the one you see below. Each of them has been brought back to life giving you a very old school way to take to the tabletop and play out an alternative and fantastical history.
Obidiah's Cavalry // Alternative Armies
These re-releases won't be for everyone but I do love the charm of these older miniatures. This also perhaps opens up an opportunity for those who missed out on these miniatures the first time around and want to help complete their collection.
Obidiah's Guns // Alternative Armies
As mentioned above, these ruffians and quirky characters are all available in these new miniature packs and this seems to be just the start for Alternative Armies. Their intention is to revisit and grow the Flintloque line over the rest of this year and offer up a chance to dive back into this world.
There is even a new Micro Scenario that you can pick up from the folks at Alternative Armies called Boom, Boom Bonkins. This is entirely free and might give you a fun way to dive in and have a bit of Flintloque fun.
Are you a fan of this older style of miniatures and is the range by Alternative Armies on your radar?

What is this?! XD They look awesome.
Flintloque was kinda the first non-GW wargame I ever became aware of. It’s effectively a fantasy pastiche on the Napoleonic War, swapping out humans for various fantasy races, and makes a LOT of bad buns at the expense of Bernard Cornwell’s Sharpe books – like here with Obidiah Hogswill replacing the equally odious Obidiah Hakeswell – and yes, there is a unit who (if I remember right) went by the name of Sharke’s Rifles….
Can;t speak for how the game plays but always looked like an interesting diversion…
Flintloque is the first wargame we played even before WHF. a friend pick it up at a game event in the Netherlands around 1995 i think.
He still has it, maby we can play it again someday.
Great to see flintloque on here been a fan for a good number of years, first in store game I ever played in Swansea as a nipper ?
Lol Sharpes best friend! Great looking figures.
I’d never heard of this line but they look great. The dwarf on the gun crew looks thrilled to be here 🙂
Always a fun range since it was released.
They used to do afun fanzine as well though not sure if its still about
I’m not going to ruin the surprise but go to Alternative Armies website and look at the Italians, their adorable
Blast from the past. Had the original Sharke as I think he was called
Glad to see Flintloque being given some love, first non-GW rule set I was introduced to and it is still going strong in its 3rd edition (and the mass battle version, Slaughterloo is also great fun).
Could be a great shoutout model-wise for the new napoleonic-era horror rules coming out later in the year, the range of models are amazing and Sharke’s rifles are still a big thing.
Also, can you imagine much better than trolls with blunderbusses, or riding on moose (except maybe ogres on rhinos)?
Those have lot of character in them.
