Oathsworn Miniatures Test Out Some Games Of Furball!
January 5, 2019 by brennon
Oathsworn Miniatures popped up an image of their testing for a game called Furball! This is a community provided game of Northymbrian-rules Hurling set within the world of Burrows & Badgers.
The game is still very much in the testing stages it seems but it would be fun to give this a go and who knows, maybe we'll see Oathsworn work out some miniatures to support it in the future if it's any good!
There is a lot of scope for expanded content as part of the Burrows & Badgers world and whilst this sports game is very interesting I think I'd love to check out a role-playing game set in this world of anthropomorphic creatures.
Are you tempted by a game of Furball?

Sounds interesting, although will it get dedicated minis or just use B&B ones? I think for something like this it really needs dedicated team sets and with the sheer variety of races in the B&B world I’m not sure Oathsworn are large enough to be able to handle it (at least not in the short term). I suppose a Kickstarter might be able to produce one mini for each race but that means anyone who wants multiple members of a race in their team will either need to do lots of conversion work, or end up with a team of… Read more »
Btw @brennon – if you’re interested in anthro RPGs check out https://www.facebook.com/The-Shadow-of-the-Dog-Lord-Anthropomorphic-Fantasy-Roleplaying-Game-42335230019/
I think work on it has stalled or even stopped (there haven’t been any posts in a few years, but the guy behind it frequently posts on his seperate art account so he’s still around), but if you contact the guy behind it you might be able to get a draft copy of the rules to take a gander at.
@lordofuzkulak – you’re right, doing miniatures for all the races is too big a job, TBH; especially with all the stuff still to do for regular B&B!
What I’m thinking is I’ll sculpt specific teams of 6 players; that way we can release a two-team starter, and add extra teams/players down the line. Add in some transfer rules, and that should cover it…
Would 5 players be better? Not a sports expert but isn’t five-a-side a thing in real football, not six-a-side? Five player teams would fit the theme better and would make less work for you. 😉
But this isn’t football, it’s based on hurling / shinty. I think six (or maybe seven) players gives us a few more options, in terms of game mechanics too; things like fouls, and injuries, become a much bigger deal the smaller the team is.
As I said, know very little about sports, so no idea what hurling/shinty is; just saw football goals and the name sounds like a football pun so thought it must be a football game. ?
Yeah, I’m not really a sports guy, either! We went with hurling just because it’s a really old sport (at least 3000 years!) and is a pretty rough, hardcore sport. It seemed to fit well with the B&B world… 🙂
@brennon – I’m still (slowly!) working on the rpg… time is the big issue, really. The plan so far is: Campaign supplement for B&B, then hopefully the RPG book, then probably Furball… and maybe a tunnel-fighting game as well! I’ve written some solo/coop rules for an urban fantasy game, and a scifi multiplayer game, but they’ll probably have to go on the backburner for now. So many ideas, so little time! 🙂
I like the sound of this!
1) ‘Campaign’ supplement for B&B
2) ‘RPG’ book for B&B
3) ‘Furball’ the sport of B&B
@oathsworn – I know that’s a lot of work. In a perfect timeline, would we see this in the course of one year or multiple years?
Honestly, I can’t say! Ideally, I’d like to get it all done in 2019. But realistically, the campaign book is already 3 months behind schedule, so I can’t make any promises. Work keeps getting in the way! But I’ll get it all done ASAP.
It would be lovely if we could have the Campaign book ready for Salute, and the RPG or Furball for the Games Expo. But it’ll depend on how well development goes…
This is the best named fantasy sports game. Also I had those exact Subbuteo nets.
Two thumbs up from me!
There’s an idea – base the minis on Subbteo bases and use that as a game mechanic. ?
Flicking your best-painted metal minis across a table – I can only see fun in this plan 😀
Remember B&B minis are metal, so for the larger critters you might end up breaking a fingertip if you try to go for power/distance.
?
Added excitement I call it!
