Oathmark Teases Dwarf Heavy Infantry & Offers Up New FAQ
March 15, 2019 by brennon
Oathmark: Battles Of The Lost Age has a lot of miniatures available for it right now but there's still work to do on the rules. However, the Osprey Games Fantasy wargame did offer up a new preview this week as Dwarf Heavy Infantry get ready to march.
If the Dwarves are getting themselves some new plastic support with Heavy Infantry hitting the tabletop from North Star then I would imagine each of the other forces, Elves, Humans, Goblins will also be getting something fun too!
With so many 'generic' Fantasy games out there right now like Warlords Of Erehwon and SAGA: Age Of Magic you have plenty of reason to use them on the tabletop in the meantime.
Keeping Us Informed
The team behind the game did post up a very cheap and cheerful FAQ for those wanting to know more about the game though.
So, how cool is that? I really like the idea of focusing in on mixed forces if you want to do something quirky. The smaller scale to begin a game of Oathmark also appeals to me, taking it from a warband-level game through to something mass battle. If they can get it to feel balanced at all levels then I'll be very happy.
Also, Goblin Wolriders!
Are you building up your force of Fantasy figures for Oathmark when it eventually releases?

Great looking models an artwork.
@brennon see another hit on your wallet Ben!
I have a box of Dwarfs, Elves and Goblins already. They are very nice models and easy to build. Ready must get them painted…
And on the list they go.
I’m using the Dwarves for Saga as Vikings. And now that Age of Magic is about to release, obviously I’ll use them as Dwarves too!
I like the artwork for the heavy Infantry. I’m looking forward to seeing the minis.
I took a break after the goblins, wanting to know a bit more about the mechanics of the game first. Good to know the file width and rough unit sizes, so twenty fighters sounds like a solid infantry regiment, maybe ten for archers. I think they are missing a trick if they don’t provide rules for halfling armies. They are always popular and there are a couple of ranges available, so they could draw players into their system with them, even if not producing figures themselves. Just basing them on humans with some minor tweaks and changes in troop types… Read more »
I think it’s because they’ve always tried to keep Frostgrave a very human-centric world and there hasn’t been word of other races like Dwarves and Elves in there (as far as I know).
@brennon
See, I disagree here. I don’t see Frostgrave as human-centric, I see Frostgrave (And Rangers of Shadow Deep similarly) as race-agnostic.
I have a warband with a wizard, knight, barbarian, tracker, and thief. Nothing but the minis I use defines the race of those characters. I have a Frostgrave warband that is 100% dwarves. Isn’t a rune smith a dwarf sigilist wizard?
That’s all true, but all of the artwork from the Frostgrave book and miniature releases would lead you to believe that it is human-centric. You can do whatever you want with it once you’ve got it in your hands, that’s the power of tabletop games, but the actual ‘world’ does seem pretty much just humans in a Fantasy setting. It’s pretty much why I see that they’ve divorced Oathmark from it. I too would/have included Goblins, Dwarves and such into Frostgrave…I don’t disagree with doing that, but Oathmark is still very much a proper High Fantasy world from the looks… Read more »
The “heavy dwarves” look nice, might end up as an elite force in my D&D games or heavy support for a dwarven warband in Frostgrave 😉
