NORTHAG & Mortem Et Gloriam Launch This Weekend From PSC
May 1, 2020 by avernos
This weekend is a high watermark for fans of historical gaming as the Plastic Soldier Company has over 3500 years of gaming available with two new games. On Saturday 2nd they will begin their launch weekend with Mortem et Gloriam, a set of massed battle rules that covers 2000BCE until 1500 CE. While on Sunday 3rd the Third World War starts in 1983 with Battlegroup NORTHAG.
To showcase these releases the Plastic Soldier Company (PSC) has been gradually revealing some of the pages of both rulesets across their Facebook page. These have been showing tantalising glimpses into the layout and design philosophies behind the books.
As well as these reveals they have also been working on their new Ultracast plastics to supplement the releases of both games with a host of miniatures in 15mm for MeG and 10mm for NORTHAG's moderns. Making it easier to raise your warhost or mobilise your Army Group for the tabletop.
All of the images I've seen for the Ultracast show they have captured the detail on the 10 and 15mm figures beautifully and I'm really looking forward to getting to play with them when the studio starts up again. Until then I'll have to enviously look on as Justin and John get to poke around them.
Follow Along This Weekend
A timetable for the weekend has been put together starting on Saturday.

There will also be a chance to win a starter set for NORTHAG so tune into the Weekender to see how you can lay your hands on this exciting take on the Cold War.
If you want to find out more about the games before the launch you can listen to the Simons on the A Few Brits And The Hobby podcast
Or No Dice No Glory had a chance to run through the beta rules and have a great battle report there that is worth checking out to give you an idea of how it plays.
It looks like the weekend is going to be packed full of interesting things to take part in, I for one am keen to see the Simons webinars, and how much of a change to the game running the half-sized Pacto makes. If you’re a fan of historical gaming don’t miss these, and if you’ve yet to dabble then why not put down your fantasy and sci-fi and take a look to see what all the fuss is about.
Join us on Saturday and Sunday and bask in the past

Looking forward to the content, intrigued by both games.
Hope you managed to join us at one of the streaming events today. If not we have another tomorrow evening and will do another in 2 weeks time. Simon
Watched all 3, very enjoyable, thank you.
Thats good to hear.
If you have any friend show might like it we are doing a summary one tomorrow at 1800.
Yes Very enjoyable. Glad I have bought the rules
It looks like its play better than my favourite ancients set which up to now is Armati
Thank you. Such comment make all the hard hours worthwhile. Amrati a fine set though too. Simon
Sounds like a great video to watch.
Hope you enjoy them all. Been fun. Simon
Looking forward very much to ‘NORTHAG’. ???
Yes I have never done much post WW2 but not rather tempted …. Simon
I know what I’ll be doing this weekend
I hear that the Northag future plans interview is the best
M e G could be great, but what about the funky dice, and will it get confusing, 40 mm frontage?
frontage like DBX systems is up to you
The funky dice had a very definite purple. They take all the brain strain out of outcomes. So not funky for the sake of it. More of a system designed specifically for wargames. People find it really easy to use, yet it has a lot of subtlety in it. Frontage is whatever you want it. The rules work in base widths. So if you have an DBM collection use those. If impetuous treat a big base as 2×2 BW. We use all sorts of system down here. Impetus based. Hail CAesaar and WaB on sabots. Fog/DBM. Its very adaptable. Simon
Figs in stock including dust. Just get the finger out and buy the rules. Thanks lads.
Welcome aboard the purple train! Enjoy and join us on the forum and FB for all the community banter.
Is it me or do the BTR60s look a bit “weird” with the hull extending down too low between the wheels (might be the only way they can cast them one piece with all those wheels underneath?).
But looking forwards to see how they play vs Team Yankee 🙂
no idea how BTRs should look, but playwise NORTHAG plays realistically and TY is more tournament/unrealistic play
The rules contain army lists for all NATO/Pact forces (or just British and Russian)?
What I’m also looking for is some scenarios for the “what if” battles in the mid 80’s. Already got the lists sorted out for the Battles in the Team Yankee books. Team Yankee players would be HORRIFIED at the amount of infantry used (ie there ARE some):D
just British and Soviets. Warwick doesn’t write generic games that can take multiple lists, it means it’s harder to write factions that behave historically. There will be AFNORTH and BOAR, CENTAG but they’ll be in a second book.
Don’t expect to be able to take a “insert NATO country here” army list and roflstomp your opponent, base your battles on narrative play and you’re quids in
You mean proper ORBATS and unit organisation ftw (rather than just fielding (and only fielding) the top tier tank for your faction (that WILL come as a shock for TY players)) 😀
Yup but wasn’t sure as if I remember right weren’t the Dutch and German forces also in the NORTHAG?
I’m not up to speed John would probably know more, but AFNORTH which was dutch danes and germans were the northern tip, then NORTHAG built around the BOAR and CENTAG is the germans to the south
no clue, I tune out once black powder is introduced, but I saw Dutch and Danes listed as AFNORTH, whether they were in northag is a question for someone else
Actually found this (well it wasn’t hard, it was on the PSC FB page), a playthrough of NORTHAG
https://nodicenoglory.com/2020/04/20/battlegroup-northag-first-play-through/
There’s also two other pages, one with a brief overview of the rules, and another on army list building 🙂
is that the one I linked in the article, that should be easy to find
Nope, the Few Brits one was a podcast. The one above gives a good run through of a “small” 500 pts game 🙂
it is literally the playthrough I linked in the article above
Or No Dice No Glory had a chance to run through the beta rules and have a great battle report there that is worth checking out to give you an idea of how it plays.
see
So I had multiple serial “senior” moments, coupled with a basic failure of reading comprehension. But other than that………..
That’s alright I know I’m just eye candy and people don’t read what I write.
The Few Brits and the Hobby podcast was interesting on MEG.
wasn’t it though
Delighted you enjoyed it. I had a lot of fun. Will be back soon with OTT and AFBATH soon to talk about Invasion Earth and Divisions of Steel.
Simon
I do find it interesting they gone for the same time period as Timecast for the first Modern ranges
The people who make my rivers? Warwick mentions why in tomorrow’s interview
Just returned home after two months…finally get to open my Clash of Spears stuff. About to order the rules and accessories for MeG, and I am really looking forward to getting the ruleset into my hands and teaching it to my grandsons. I have been thinking I might distract the boys from elves and dragons with Northag too, since at least two of them have a Marine for a father, but I am torn on choosing between Ultracast or traditional metals from Lurkio or Forged in Battle. The ruleset is an easy choice, as MeG seems unique and a lot… Read more »

FWIW we use Mortem et Gloriam and Hail Caesar for big battle in the Cape. Both give good results for big games. HC by having a lot of figures so the dice even out. Mortem et Gloriam bu being less generic at each stage.
Looking forward to the release of Northag!
After the success of the events the 2 SIMON SHOW will be a regular event as we work through the great battles of history. Next on is May 17th when we are refighting Magnesia. SimonE doing Maximus in 15mm and Simon-H doing Pacto in 6mm.
