North Star Preview More Soldier Captains For Frostgrave In May
April 24, 2016 by brennon
Coming next month for Frostgrave by Osprey Games we have some additional models from North Star to help build up the martial wing of your warband. Here we have some additional Soldier Captains...
These are going to be available in May and feature a range of different weapons for your warband to play around with. As you can see above we have a Captain armed with a sword, crossbow and halberd.
Some of these Captains actually look rather androgynous so you could get away with them being women which is rather cool.
Additionally they also previewed one of the Warhounds from the Into The Breeding Pits expansion which is coming soon.
You'll be able to wrangle one of these beasts hopefully and use him in your warband as a faithful defender of your Wizard. You can also see some more exotic looking Soldier Captains too; one of them wearing a rather dangerous looking mask.
What do you think of these soldiers?

My shopping list for this company continues to grow.
I think these are rather static in their stance and to be really honest a little heavy of foot. I don’t worry about this however as there are plenty of other option’s. It is a shame that these are not more exciting and a few of the other models designed for this game coming from the highly reputable stable of North Stars quarter’s have been for me again a little of the same. It is a shame as Nick Ayre’s company really was the one to put this upon the block and now they are not living up to that… Read more »
Very interesting. The bearded captain looks nice, but nothing special. The two indeterminate gender captains both look really cool though. I wonder if it was intended that they be used as men or women?
I also like the guy with the mask.
I’ve never been grabbed by Frostgrave and I’m still not very interested in the rules, from what I know of them, but I do like the setting and the look of the miniatures, and I like the feel of the game. Perhaps I’ll have to give it a go at some point…
I get what you’re saying @chrisq, i still like them but…
Can’t wait to see what’s next!
These are one-piece metal models. This is a deliberate design choice and limits the options for poses. More dynamic posing tends to require multi-part molds and of course therefore fiddly assembly, which is a drawback for some.
These look good. Personally cant stand plastic and resin models you have to mess about and build yourself. Much better them being one piece metal models
Since real armor doesn’t include the odd boob socks so popular with fantasy sculptors, and actually obscures the physique of whoever wears it, there’s really nothing wrong with claiming an androgynous figure is female. You can always do a head swap to make the gender you intend more obvious.
…although with flexible armour like chainmail, you can generally tell there’s a female body under there:

The two figures on the right in the first image are female.
I would prefer them to be plastics or at least resin admittedly but I really like the GoT vibe they have and will consider them 😎
