North Star Go Back To Dwarven Roots With New Plastic Minis
June 15, 2017 by dracs
North Star Military Figures have revealed a new set of plastic Dwarves which should hopefully be available in the near future.
For these minis, painted by Andrew Taylor, North Star seem to have gone back to the Nordic roots of Dwarves.
They look very Viking, or possibly Anglo Saxon, with an array of weapons and chainmail, rather than the usual thick plate armour and axes.
Do you like this take on Dwarves, or do you prefer the more traditional approach?

I thought this was the ‘traditional’ approach. I guess it depends on what tradition one has become … comfortable with.
This is more of a Tolkienesque idea which I like. It reminds me of the old drawings.
Certainly moves away from the more ‘Heroic’ look you get from Warhammer, KoW for example.
These are fine dwarfs indeed. As the two fine gentlemen above me have pointed out this what dwarfs should look like. (not that I mind heroic dwarfs, quirky dwarfs, characterful dwarfs or even sci-fi dwarfs ….. damn you GW……. *sobs)
Them’s Dwarves alright.
Picked up a sprue of these chaps at Salute. Definitely be adding to them when the box is released.
I like the idea of doing a traditional Thorin and Company using these.
I got some at Salute as well, they are awesome
That archer looks awesome. Reminds me of the old GW – Dwarfs hold up in a Mighty Fortress getting attacked by hordes of goblins 🙂
They look fine indeed. Might pick up a sprue to add to my D&D dwarves for role play or for a Frostgrave warband!
Thems some nice Dorfs. More plastic “not blinged up” Dorfs are always welcome. Wouldn’t look out of place on a battlefield or a dungeon, or indeed any tavern throughout the land.
Love the more understated style of them. Does anyone know when they are due for release?
In terms of traditional, these are actually a lot more like the original early Citadel Dwarves from the first few Warhammer editions, if you want to go back that far! 🙂
