August 19, 2020 by brennon
North Star Military Figures has shown off a preview of the new miniatures coming to support The Red King expansion for Frostgrave which will land in December 2020. These are some sample 3D Prints rather than the final plastic miniatures but you get an idea of what options will be available!

This is going to be another plastic kit which comes with four frames of bodies, heads, weapons and accessories allowing you to make twenty miniatures to use in your games. I do wonder if this means that as well as being foes for your Wizards to face, we might also see some rules for running a demon-led warband into the streets of The Frozen City.
I do like that the design choice here is to bring in plenty of that devil and demon look from classic Medieval artwork. Plenty of horns, fur, wings, forked tails and angular armour. I'm not entirely convinced by some of the face choices but in general, I think this is a great looking pack for those who want more customisation options.
Are you primed to dive into Frostgrave later this year?
"Plenty of horns, fur, wings, forked tails and angular armour..."
Goatmen? XD
Devilish Goatmen…even more deadly
Satanic devilish goatmen?! Oh noes!
Goatbo-o-o-ys!
Showing me age there ?
So more like Beastmen than Demons…? Just to be absolutely clear,i’m not hating on the kit ( i have every box of Frostgrave Wizard and hired help for ” wargaming lego ” Henchman builds ),but they don’t shout ” Demon ” to me.
They owe more to medieval Christianity’s demons as slander on the pagan god Pan than, say GW’s daemons. I quite like them but think the facial hair needs work.
I also have some GW daemons in need of paint and this would be a reason to get on with them but it looks like there are missile troops there and I’m not up for converting Bkoodletters to use crossbows ?
True. It’s the armour that throws me the most as far as a demonic representation goes, but I may well need to up my research.
That’s true, odd that they’re covering up. I’m mostly used to seeing a grundy bag at most on your typical demon.
They do to me, but more in the Japanese pop culture sense of the race. Basically they seem like a demi-human race that happens to have horns etc. as opposed to demons from hell which are insane and malevolent evil sprites bent on the violation and perversion of all creation
Hmm, and they are generic enough to use for mixed race armies or even fight alongside your goody two shoes knights and high elves as good aligned troop for a more Japanese light novel style setting.
Can see me adding a box of these to my Chaos stuff. They have a nice old school vibe.
Interesting take. I’m not sure about the concept of demons in functional plate armour as to my mind demons should be more non-corporeal than that. But hey, its fantasy so who cares.
They could fit in with Mantic’s take on the Abyssals I guess, which are more physically real than many fantasy demons. A demonic race, if you will.
Oh. I like these.
Something different.
Great for D&D villains.
Those would be right at home in games of RuneQuest.
There certainly quite Broo like
Great looking demonic ? beastmen for gaming a fabulous defence force protecting a dark necromancer/wizard.
These are perfect. Much closer to a Devil then a ravenous demon, which is a really nice take. The Red King, is a King after all. Which leads me to think more along the lines of structure and hierarchy. Not typical demonic traits. I usually go by D&D terms for such things. Devils are more civilized lawful evil, and demons are ravenous choatic evil. These are going to be great for D&D. And lets face it… chaotic killing machine demons “blood for the blood god” are just so one dimensional and boring. With more realistic actual army or devils you… Read more »
Oooo, interesting. I’m really enjoying Frostgrave at the moment, I think its cause you can pretty much use anything in the game.
I’d love to see some more mosters and the like for the game, just for variety really
EXCELLENT Lower Abyssals replacement for Kings of War =)
And I’ll get some of these to count as Orcs in Oathmark. What a cool kit.
Love em
