A Norman Army Musters From Warlord Games For Hail Caesar

Warlord Games are focusing in on some more Dark Age releases for you this week as they show off their mustering Norman army with some new options for you.
At the head of the collection are these Heavy Infantry soldiers with their spears at the ready. I like that we're getting a mix of the kite shields in the mix as well as smaller round shields. The chap with the sword would have to be my favourite though.
Maybe as outriders for your force, Warlord also have the Unarmoured Cavalry.
You could use these fellows to harras your enemies flanks and poke at their formation before sending in the foot troops. With light armour, they are open to attack from ranged options but if they get to hit the enemy they could cause some chaos.
Last but not least we have some Norman Archers to throw into the mix.
These fellows are much more of the skirmishing variety and much like the knights, soften up the enemy so your foot troops can get in there and do the slogging to mop up your foes.
I might not be a Norman player (Saxons forever!) but I do like the look of these models for bulking out your Norman force.

Those are very nice.
First I would like to say that I like them in general, more historicals are always welcome! That said, I do not really get Warlords preference for leaning their minis over forwards… why? An archer shooting and running? Aiming at rabbits? Are some of the spearmen falling? Just try to stand in some of those poses any you will see that it does not really feels natural…
I know Warlord want to have movement in their figures and I agree with that, but a spearman can look purposeful and at-the-ready in other ways.
@janus1004 – maybe it’s to represent the various stages of drawing the bow back?
Although I’d guess you’d be leaning back.
I like to have a verity of poses and they’d look good a top of a watch tower 🙂

I gather I see them from a mass battle perspective rather than a skirmish one. Like in Hail Ceasar you are often having them on movement trays and on a field with not so much elevation…. nonetheless, as first mentioned always cool with new historical stuff! 🙂
or on a hill shooting down at rampaging Pagan Rus!
Just to clarify, these are being sold under the Warlord label but are in fact by Saxon Miniatures. They’re very nice models.
