January 28, 2022 by brennon
Another new Battlebox was revealed by Games Workshop for those taking the plunge into Warhammer Age Of Sigmar and the Mortal Realms. This time around, the focus switches to a clash between The Daughters Of Khaine and the Nighthaunt in Arena Of Shades.

This follows the formula of other Battlebox releases where you get some new characters for the two factions alongside the potential of something new when it comes to troops, monsters and more.

Leading the way for the Nighthaunt is a new miniature, the Scriptor Mortis. The named individual here is Vayon Of The Withered Quill who has been condemned to forever write down the names of unfortunate souls by Nagash.

He is a haunting and terrible creation which is very awesome. I love the style of the Nighthaunt and I think that the design team have turned up the creepy to the maximum. I am a massive fan of miniatures that carry books and this fellow has a BIG one. An awesome option for the fearsome forces of Nagash.
He is then flanked by some Nighthaunt who get access to ranged weapons. Yes, wild right?! Here are the hunched and fearsome Craventhrone Guard.

The Nighthaunt are also joined by ten Bladegheist Revenants, one Spirit Torment, two Chainghasts, and four Myrmourn Banshees. So, you've got a pretty good band of ghosts to throw into the mix when starting your next army.
On the other side of things, we have the Daughters Of Khaine. They only get one new miniature in the form of the High Gladiatrix.

This miniatures certainty gets across the themes of the Daughters Of Khaine. She looks wicked and cruel, especially with that nasty whip. There are some good options there for those who want to do some kitbashing with Drukhari miniatures too.
This lady then leads a force of five Doomfire Warlocks, ten Sisters of Slaughter, and five Khinerai Heartrenders. She has quite a fast force which is then set against the meandering and drifting forces of the Night Haunt.
An interesting Battlebox but could it be one that draws you into playing Warhammer: Age Of Sigmar?

Nagash is death you can’t kill death.
Rebuttal; Death existed before Nagash and will exist after. Nagash is just the undeserving avatar and can be replaced.
Sigmar probably COULD have done Nagash in, you know, if he didn’t freak out at the sight of Archaeon and threw Ghal Maraz at him and ran.
Just saying…
he’s a physical form of death.?
And Arielle is a physical form of Life, Malerion is a physical form of Shadow…
He’s undeath, and he keeps eating the naturally-forming death deities in Shyish to stop the natural soul cycle. He’s not death, he’s a death-parasite.
Probably.
But Death does take holidays and Mort will take over.
Not an interesting box for me as I already have both factions and not worth it for a few leaders.
Or Santa ?
Not bad boxes set and from two new miniatures I rather like High Gladiatrix.
