New Sci-Fi Wargame Sythopian Wars Charges Onto Kickstarter
February 28, 2022 by brennon
Sythopian Wars from Bloodforged Games is now live on Kickstarter looking to bring the game to life! The game is a brand new science-fantasy wargame with a unique collection of miniatures to choose from and a fast, reactive set of mechanics.

Sythopian Wars is born from the passion of two brothers. They have been working on the world of Sythopian Wars for a long time and are now looking to make their game a reality thanks to backers over on Kickstarter.
There are two factions included as part of the current project that forms the two-player starter set for Sythopian Wars. On the one side, you have the terrifying and bloody Asylumists. These twisted and cybernetically augmented individuals are incalculable in number and simply seek to kill and destroy.

On the other side of things, you have the no-less terrible and grim Confederation! Here you have an army that has been forced to become the best of the best. There are no "rank and file" soldiers within the Confederation and they have instead been replaced by heavily armed and armoured troops who have been slaved to their masters.
I mentioned above that Sythopian Wars features some particularly amazing and unique miniatures. Here is just a snapshot of the miniatures they have been showing off the aforementioned factions.

I, personally, think the miniatures are looking fantastic. There is an edge of Warhammer 40,000 grimdark to them whilst also taking influence from the likes of Warzone, Warmachine and beyond. But, I would say that both of the armies in the core set are pretty much unlike anything out there on the tabletop at the moment.
I was particularly drawn to the look of The Confederation and their Convict Drones for example...

Recon Drones // Sythopian Wars
I don't think I've quite seen anything like these kinds of troops on the tabletop that's for sure! The smallest miniatures in their collection come in at around the 40mm mark but that doesn't mean that the game can't be played with your current 28mm and 32mm collections. Infact, the designers used terrain of that scale when testing the game and it is entirely suitable!

Each army and each unit comes with its own background and lore that has been developed over the years. This isn't even the end of their plans either. There are more factions to look forward to in the future including The Host, Drakkaran, The Order and the Biosite Expanse. Even from the small snippets of artwork we've seen, it looks like a range that could be fascinating for painters and hobbyists.
Sythopian Wars Gameplay
Sythopian Wars uses alternating activations and a system of reactive play in order to make sure that no one feels left out during a turn. The designers have put together a couple of very handy videos that are well worth checking out that go into the basics (and more) of gameplay...

You can also dive into the rules over on their website HERE if you want to see a full breakdown of how the game works. I would also recommend having a peek at the Tabletop Simulator Mod as well which allows you to dive right in!
The team behind the game have been putting a lot of time and effort into Sythopian Wars and it really shows. The artwork is looking great and the miniatures even more so. It also feels like the game sits in a good place in terms of scale. It looks like it slots solidly into that larger skirmish zone, akin to the likes of Warmachine and Hordes. You look to be able to have a lot of fun with twenty or so models per side.
A fascinating game that is well worth taking a look at!

SO great! I very like it. thank your post
So this Kickstarter was cancelled by the designers/owners …. I wish them the best of luck… jumping into the sci-fi massed combat mini game realm has to be daunting… and it is rough that you have to pretty much have a fully fleshed out game with lots of examples of models and basically planned out stretch goals that you’ve already pretty much achieved in real life before you can even take a game to KS… I could see doing something like what Shieldwolf has done where they just try to fund 1 or 2 plastic kits at a time… Or… Read more »
