Grab A New Set Of Metallic Paints From The Army Painter Soon
February 20, 2020 by brennon
The Army Painter have got plans to release a new Metallics Paint Set in March (14th) which gives you pretty much every colour you’d need for armour, weapons and accessories.
The set comes with eight paints which run the gambit from iron and silver through to gold, bronze and copper so you could paint up a bunch of Dwarves or Elves with this set and be able to hit the light and the darker side of metallics.
Available in dropper bottles and with a painting guide alongside it to help you out you’ve also got a set of metal balls free. These added balls make mixing much easier.
I do quite like some of The Army Painter Metallics I’ve tinkered with in the past and they go down without too much effort. These also mix well according to their information so it means you can get a few different variations out of the set too.
Are you looking to snag some more metallics?

This new paint set has balls of steel!
I missed that the first time. Nice one!
Ooh nice.
Nice. Not sure they’ll drive Model Air metallics off my desk but always good to see another option.
I’ve always heard that the AP range gave bad coverage, UNTIL I bought their wet palette box and got a load of “bumf” with it. I’ve always just bought the dropper bottles loose and never seen the “Read Before Use” slip of paper that AP put out with their Warpaints range. Anyhow before using you are supposed to give the paints a brief shake and then squeeze out the “medium” used to carry the paint (should come out as a frothy gunk) before using the bottle for the first time, THEN shake as normal before painting. Looks like AP add… Read more »
Interesting information thank you
AP paints are very good but you are right they do need a good shaking and the first 4 or 5 drops should be discarded. I think they are significantly better than GW paints and they arent too shabby themselves.
That’s fantastic information. A great idea that came slightly unstuck because this is a hobby in which no one reads the manual! 😀
Is this info on the bottles you buy separately I wonder
Yeah that’s true. I’ve never read more than the colour on a paint bottle.
@somegeezer I checked one I have and it just says Shake Well
They’ve done themselves a bit of disservice there. The only paint of theirs I’ve had any success with if Wolf Grey. I might look for an excuse to play with some others.
No the info isn’t on the bottle (although it IS buried in the AP painting guide about 10 pages in). This was a separate bit of paper (which was why I noticed it), I probably wouldn’t have caught that titbit of info if I just had the multipage painting guide. https://admin.thearmypainter.com/files/downloads/guides/TheWargamer_ArmyPaintingGuide_byTheArmyPainter_2019.pdf I can’t find a copy of the slip of paper that explains the whole process better, this slip needs to go on the front page of the website, in the store racking, etc. Because it looks like the majority of us have been trying to use them with the… Read more »
They’ve dropped the ball here. They need to get BoW, some other blogs and YouTubers involved (not volunteering myself, I have 200 subs and haven’t done a vid this year) and get the word out.
I have Machinegun Metal and Greedy Gold, and they’re pretty darn nice. Looks like with this set, you have shade-basecoat-highlight for silver and gold, with Gun Metal — Plate Mail Metal — Shining Silver, and Tue Copper — Greedy Gold — Bright Gold. I wonder if you can use Rough Iron and Weapon Bronze for rust effects. For Q&D rust, I currently use Strong Tone, Rust Effect, and Crusted Sore.
@brennon will Beasts of War be stocking this – and other Army Painter products? When I was looking for starter paint sets for my girlfriend in early Jan I was surprised not to be able to find their stuff in the store, especially how involved they have been with various boot camps over the years.
