New Heroes Come To Lead Para Bellum’s City States Of Conquest
April 11, 2023 by brennon
Para Bellum Wargames has been showing off some new releases for their 35mm Fantasy miniatures game, Conquest: The Last Argument Of Kings. These new heroes would be good for leading mighty armies but would also be handy when diving in and playing their skirmish game, First Blood!

Leading your Hoplites into battle, the Dorilates train and coordinate your ranks and get them into professional shield wall and pike formations. These veterans have seen their fair share of battle and so are going to be very handy when looking to keep your fighting forces in fine fettle!
I've been tempted by the Nords and the Dweghom in the past as armies or warbands for Conquest but I think the City States might have just won out due to their overall aesthetic. There is something inherently cool about Ancient Greeks and so Para Bellum giving them their own unique and almost "bionic" spin on things just, well, rocks and takes things to eleven!
As well as the new Dorialtes miniature, there is also the splendid miniature for the Lochagos.
Lochagos // Conquest: The Last Argument Of Kings
Whilst still "simply" veteran Hoplites, these warriors are privy to information in staff meetings amongst the City States. They are incredibly good at mastering the flow of battle on the tabletop and allow you to coordinate manoeuvres between different elements of your army. They are the voices of their commanding officers in Last Argument Of Kings and First Blood and will be a beacon of calm amongst the chaos of battle.
Another stunning set of 35mm miniatures from the folks at Para Bellum. I was particularly drawn to the amazing shield with that design that mimics the head of a Gorgon. I like to think that this fellow might have even bested one of those in order to claim that shield from the armoury.
New City States Units
In addition to the new heroes, you can also get your hands on a new Dual Kit of plastic miniatures that represent the Thorakites and the Agema of the City States. Swap spears for swords with this new band of grizzled-looking warriors.
Thorakites // Conquest: The Last Argument Of Kings
The Thorakites are there to deal with situations that a phalanx of spears can't. Send these warriors into confined spaces and across rough terrain with their big shields at the ready and hefty swords. Use the spears of your Phalangites and Hoplites to lock the enemy in place and send your Thorakites through the gap that has been created in the enemy lines.
You can also call on the more splendid-looking Agema who are the elite of the elite.
Agema // Conquest: The Last Argument Of Kings
These warriors are the personal guard of rulers, tyrants and council members and there is no such thing as defeat in their mind. They come with those awesome masked helmets that remind me of the Persian Immortals from 300. If you're looking for dedicated warriors that won't budge an inch, make sure to include some Agema in your ranks.
Once again, the aesthetic of the City States just rocks. I love those massive shields that are crying out for a bit of freehand work or perhaps a transfer or two. It would be amazing to see these miniatures painted up in the style that John went with for our own City States force. Make sure to check out the painting tutorial for that HERE.
New Hundred Kingdoms Miniatures
As well as the City States, the Hundred Kingdoms are also getting some time in the sun. A new Order has been unleashed on the battlefields of Conquest.
Order Of The Ashen Dawn // Conquest: The Last Argument Of Kings
Thundering forth on their heavy chargers, the Order Of The Ashen Dawn are holy warriors that are the bane of monsters and nightmares that plague the Hundred Kingdoms. They are the guardians of the Sealed Temple and keepers of dark treasures and wear armour that would, in Para Bellum's words "reduce master smiths to tears".
These miniatures can be used as officers with unique rules in First Blood so if you're looking to lead the way with one of these brutal knights, you can! I absolutely love the over-the-top armour design and those masks on their helmets. You get the sense that each of these warriors is unique and has their own way of fighting on the battlefield.
Could you be tempted to pick up some of these new Conquest miniatures?

I will not buy into a new game (repeats the mantra under the stress of awesome painted figures).
Nice looking Achilles unit.
Yep. All of these
Those look really good.
I think I need some of those for my City States army! ???
The City States continue to look epic, very tempting. The Ashen Dawn not so much, nothing really works. And with that price tag, I think I would pass.
