MERCS 2.0 Now Available From Megacon Games
August 13, 2016 by brennon
Megacon Games have now released the new MERCS 2.0 range onto their webstore for you to pick up. Factions new and old are available in plastic as well as the new Rulebook too!
The new rulebook contains all of the updated information you need to play the game including...
- Revised and steamlined ruleset
- Gold foil hardcase design
- Exclusive punchboard token sheet
- 384 full color pages
- Over 150 full color illustrations and photographs
- All 12 Megacons and stats
- Ever-changing campaign mode using MERCS: Conflict custom dice
- New game modes and scenarios
- Fully indexed
The important thing to note is that a lot of streamlining and helpful additions have been made to the game to make it run smoothly.
It also appears to look very nice inside with some wonderful artwork and plenty of background information adding to the world of MERCS and developing the corporations at the heart of it.
It looks like a solid product that has a lot of work put into it.
Which Faction?
As well as the CCC and Kemvar all twelve factions have been added to their webstore with full Starter Boxes.
Each box comes with ten miniatures for you to use on the tabletop as well as their 2.0 Stat Cards so you'll have them ready at hand for when you get gaming.
This might be a good time to break out the MERCS and get them down onto the tabletop for another bout of Corporate warfare.
Are you tempted?

I’d be interested to learn more about this game, just to see what it’s all about, how it plays, how it’s different from anything else. I haven’t played Myth, but it sounds like that’s an interesting game, so I would assume / hope that they do something interesting with this too.
My opinion of the miniatures is pretty mixed. Some look really decent, some look really cheap and old-fashioned. But as I say, I would be interested to find out more.
The first edition was great. The minis ok.I only backed the Recon KS to get my hands on the new rules. Now that I have a ton of minis for different factions, I wonder if they will sell single minis to fill up my armies.
Got a copy from the Kickstarter and it is a lovely book, I really like Megacons art style. What I would like to see though is some sort of (free
(Free) PDF of the core rules/quick start guide as its a hefty tome to be carrying about just to read on the train to work. Don’t know what happened to the end of my sentence?
This is interesting. Got into Mercs too late but the one or two games I got were great fun. Would be good to see interest pick up on this again
Each box comes with 12 miniatures but only has 10 per box? What???
Mercs 1 was good but never really picked up. Will have another look assuming they come out in the UK
Sorry, my bungle – ooops haha
MERCS V1.0 was really fun, quite different from a lot of other games.. you get 5 models on the table (out of an original 6, then was up to 7 I think). period. 5 per side. 10 models per table (okay, one faction had a dog that gave them a 6th model). They also used the “stat card” in a very unique manner using it as the measuring tool and weapon templates which was really genius. The fact that in 2nd Edition they added more characters per faction (so you get to make your team up from a larger selection… Read more »
I was a fan of the original version and backed the KS to get the extra minis and have been really disappointed. RECON as a game is good but the minis are some of the worst I have come across. I did a comparison between the original minis and the KS plastics and in some cases they don’t look anything like each other. Definition is very poor with lots of cleaning up to do. So game is very good, original metal minis are ok, would avoid the plastics at all costs.
that’s kinda what I was afraid of… I’d heard rumors that Megacon may “re-make” their plastics in the future, but that might also just be a pipe-dream…
They switched molds to a different company for the retail run. After a post-production visit to China, they found some very poor QC issues with the company that did the Recon stock (were not letting molds get up to proper temperature, accepting every mini that came out). The new company seems much better set up to increase minis of good quality and consistency.
Both of my KS shipments seem okay, for the most part. Model detail is generally good and flash was minimal.
Anyone know of plans for them to come out in the UK? I really like the look of Myth 2.0 as well, but shipping from the US is insane…
Looks good. Hopefully the figures aren’t as god awful as the ones for Recon. ( Not the sculpts. The sculpts are great. But the moulding is atrocious. )
It’s the same Recon figures in restic but I think they’re being made by they original company they use for Myth now so casting should be better.
If they are anything like the Myth figures than that’s great, I really like those miniatures and was hoping that the miniatures for RECON were going to be the same. Unfortunately, they were not and I’m not likely to buy them again or spend anymore money on Megacon games either.
This has been a long while coming! Somewhat of a kickstarter saga. Glad it finally seems to have been sorted now though and I am looking forward to getting my hands on a copy.
Just wondering how this game was doing, having seen updates for other (similar?) games like conflict 47 etc. what is its unique selling point compared to say Dust, bolt action, infinity, war machine?
Realise my q may also show my lack of knowledge if other games as well, oh well.
so, mousaka, as you can see, there is a wide range of feelings on this… the game itself is small skirmish with 5 characters per side, you play on a 3 ft x 2 ft or 3 ft x 3 ft table, and each model has multiple wounds, special rules, and unique abilities and usually one special weapon or type of attack. It is MUCH smaller (in #s of figures) than Konflict 47, Dust, Bolt, and most games of Infinity or Warmachine. It is not nearly as complex as Infinity (while still being very tactical and strategic). The “goal” of… Read more »
Thanks jahatch28 – it’s really useful to get a rounded opinion from someone who knows the game and the background to the company well enough to give a positive but realistic overview.
Oops, that should have been @jahatch28
This was undoubtedly one of the worst KS ever, the minis are very varied from complete crap with no detail, flat weapons which are bent and face that look melted, to OK minis with reasonable board game quality not TT quality. The communication with this company throughout the KS was horrific from downright lies to being rude to backers who were trying to help the community. Avoid
I’ve never been able to escape the feeling that looks wise ,Merc models have never really improved upon the original Kemvar and CCC, and have in fact gotten worse.
I don’t know if there was a change in how models were designed, but putting the EU, Inc faction up against CCC with its much older models, you would swear the latter were designed much later.
Perhaps I’m just being overly harsh.
Does this game have much of a following in the UK?
I really like the look of this, but struggling to find much of a community online.
I’d be tempted to buy a couple of sets and try to convert a few people from my FLGS, but the additional cost of having to ship the minis in from the U.S puts me off taking a punt on it.
