Wargames Atlantic have been previewing some more of the new releases coming out as part of their 28mm plastic range. An upcoming box is dedicated to The Boxer Rebellion which follows an uprising in China in around 1900.
Boxer Rebellion // Wargames Atlantic
As with a lot of the boxes from Wargames Atlantic, this is a set which is going to be packed with all manner of options for making your rebellious Boxer fighters. They were named Boxers because many of their members were practitioners of martial arts, known in the west as Chinese Boxing. There is a lot to the Boxer Rebellion so it is well worth reading up more on it HERE.
Talking of there being a lot to get your head around, you also have the Tigermen!
Tigerman // Wargames Atlantic
The Tigermen seem like a rather interesting part of the rebellion and offer up a selection of specialised characters to build on regular individuals. I must admit, I did think that this fellow was dressed in a lovely onesie but I'm sure he isn't doing much chilling out.
Are you going to be snapping up the Boxer Rebellion set when it releases?

What troops do you think should face them? Japanese and Russians were the biggest forces sent to take back Beijing.
Do you think this is an opportunity for them to make Russo-Japanese minis. 1900 Boxer Rebellion and 1904-05 Russo-Japanese war… The uniforms would still be pretty much the same? Would those Japanese and Russians still be good for WW1?
Yeah. Sorry. Went down a bit of a rabbit hole of plastic crack crossover combos there. ?
a short war but one full of combatants so it is interesting certainly. Uniform would be largely the same for WWI so I think we will see some of those down the line, but a range of pulpy heroes/gangsters wouldn’t go amiss for me either.
Pulp. Hadn’t thought of that. Add sci-fi weapons for Stargrave thugs maybe?
In that settings the firry outfit makes an unsettling sort of sense. ?
US Marines were still wearing the light blue pants and dark blue shirts and coats they wore during the Spanish American War. I would not be opposed to seeing that and making them useful for both conflicts. The German Seebataillon uniform was dramatically different. It was much more like a British khaki uniform down to even a Wolseley style helmet.
Actually I am pretty sure the uniforms wouldn’t be same as WW1 at all (particularly the late war), at least for the Japanese since they changed not just the color scheme of their uniforms but also the hats, the pants, and the coats. In WW1 the uniform coat used by the Japanese Imperial army had the iconic Taisho era red vertical “epaulettes” instead of the more typical European style horizontal pattern “epaulettes” that they had sported in the Boxer and Russian conflicts and in some later cases front breast pockets where added to the uniforms which had not been a… Read more »
Russo-Japanese war was something WA did poll once and the Japanese summer uniforms are pretty much the same as the Boxer Rebellion down to the kits I believe, and Russians would probably follow suit given it was only 3 years between the two conflicts. But WW1 was 20 years later and the uniforms for Japan at least changed drastically by that time and the Russians had added more to their kits by then so they probably wouldn’t work for the great war. However minis for all 3 conflicts would probably work great for diesel punk, VSF, and industrial fantasy games… Read more »
Another splendidly left field release from WA, even before we get to Onesie Guy. I’m so happy Wargames Atlantic are in our lives.
correct
Ooh they look good.
Wargames Atlantic, you really do know how to bankrupt a hobbyist don’t you! Needing a bigger house at this rate to store my rather awesome looking WA plastic crack!
