New 28mm English Civil War Personalities Join Empress’ Range
August 30, 2023 by brennon
Sticking with a theme of the English Civil War for today, we have some new figures from Empress Miniatures for those diving into wargaming the period. Four new personalities have been added to their 28mm range, ready to lead the Parliamentarians and the Royalists on the battlefield.
Sir Philip Stapleton // Empress Miniatures
The first of these miniatures is Sir Philip Stapleton. He was a supporter of the Parliamentarians during the Civil War and commanded a brigade of cavalry at the Battle Of Edgehill. He also saw action at the Battle Of Chalgrove Field and the First Battle Of Newbury. He did eventually fall out of favour when concerned about the advancement of Oliver Cromwell but managed to escape to Calais before things could go too badly.
The next miniature is for Prince Maurice, an experienced soldier and younger brother of Prince Rupert.
Prince Maurice // Empress Miniatures
Prince Maurice had previously served during the Thirty Years' War and then served under Rupert at the Battle Of Powick Bridge and the Battle Of Edgehill. He had quite the storied list of both successes and failures during the course of the war but was made a Knight Of The Garter whilst in exile in 1649. He lost his life in the end when travelling to the West Indies when his ship was caught in a hurricane.
Next up, we're looking to Sir William Balfour!
Sir William Balfour // Empress Miniatures
I love the look for Sir William Balfour, thundering forward with pistol at the ready. He seems like the kind of dashing hero you'd want to have as part of your army. He was a Scottish soldier who served during the Thirty Years' War and then as part of the Parliamentarian forces. Much like with Prince Maurice, he had a storied history and participated throughout the English Civil War in numerous battles. Unlike some unfortunates during this period, he actually looks like he actually made it out the other side and didn't die in some terrible way!
Last but not least, we have Lord George Goring.
Lord George Goring // Empress Miniatures
This fellow was another experienced officer from the Thirty Years' War who also served in the Bishops' War and had quite a reputation after being involved in the Army Plot of 1641. If you're looking to uncover more about Lord George Goring, it's worth delving into the Historical details Empress have on him over on their webstore. He fought alongside the Royalists but seems like he was quite insubordinate and even contemplating switching sides!
Could you be tempted to pick up some of these English Civil War personalities from Empress Miniatures?

Nice to see some alternative character miniatures – most ranges go for Cromwell, Fairfax, The King and Prince Rupert so some others are most welcome.
