January 29, 2025 by brennon
The Wiglaf Miniatures range of 18mm (1/100th) scale figures expands with some more fantastic sculpts from Mark Copplestone. Designed for use with Age Of Penda but usable in a myriad of other games, you can now snap up a host of Welsh Warriors.
Welsh Warlords & Followers // Wiglaf Miniatures
The miniatures from Wiglaf have been designed to slot into the Seventh Century alongside the Anglo-Saxon and Vendel kingdoms that would have been fighting during the period. These are perfect for the wars of Mercia and their battles against their enemies across the British Isles.
The new Welsh miniatures were sculpted by Mark Copplestone in the same style as his Barbarica range so if you like the look of those figures, you're in for a treat with these. You can get a fantastic set of Warlords and Followers who can lead the way as an elite unit or sprinkled amongst others as champions and heroes.
Making up the bulk of your force are the Welsh Warriors that come in both an Armoured and Unarmoured flavour so you can make a distinction between those warriors dragged from their farms to fight and those veterans who have made a career fighting alongside their warlords.

Last but not least, you can also get a set of Welsh Skirmishers which can be armed with a mixture of slings and bows. Use these folks to watch over the valleys and mountain passes, waylaying the enemy before the bulk of your force can strike and land the killing blow.

As you'll have noted, you will have to supply your own spears and banners but each miniature that requires one has an open hand so it should be easy enough for you to sort out. Choose which flavour of spears works for you and away you go.
Will you be scooping up these new Welsh miniatures for your Age Of Penda games and beyond?
