Necromunda Heads Into The Ash Wastes In New Expansion
January 28, 2022 by brennon
Games Workshop's most interesting reveal from the LVO this morning was also the one that left me wanting. Games of Necromunda are going to be heading away from the tight confines of the Hive City and into the Ash Wastes.

All we got for this was a teaser trailer (admittedly a fun one) that showed off a gang heading out across the blasted sands delivering something of import. However, a strange gang then leap out of nowhere and bring the convey to a smoking and fiery end.
Necromunda: Ash Wastes Cinematic Trailer
The images we did see sort of match up to the concept art for the Ash Wastes Nomads a few years ago (see below). So, I would assume we're going to be seeing them make their way into the gangs available for Necromunda.

One would assume that we're going to be seeing a new set of rules for outdoor exploration in Necromunda alongside rules for vehicles? I would love to see a proper "train robbery" style scenario where you have to bring down folks as these bandits did to the Orlocks.
It would have been nice to even get a little bit of a look at the miniatures that they are working on for this. They dared to show one Corsair so one would hope they could show off a miniature for this new expansion or at least some more artwork?
What form do you think this will take?

“Gorka Morka light” but without vehicles and orcs
If it was Gorka-Morka but just sans Orks that would make more sense – and give GeeDubs an excuse to make a whole range of “civvie” vehicles that would make Imperial Guard, Inquisition, Alpha Legion & Genestealer Cults players positively explode at the conversion opportunities…..
Yeah it looks like the vehicles are coming. I would imagine we’ll see the land-train/convoy from the teaser trailer alongside some Orlocks and Ash Wastes Nomads in the new Core/Expansion set.
Probably lots of scenarios and terrain which focus in on that as well.
I’ve just had a crazy thought – how mad would it be if THIS is how Squats are reintroduced to 40k as a playable faction, in the form of reimagined Engineers Guild Biker gangs? I mean we know that Necromunda appears to have some population of the antsy space dwarves from the weapon jack and bounty hunter models. Would this really be that big of a leap?
that would be too crazy good … and we know that GW don’t do that 😉
(besides … the folk in this teaser be too tall for space dwarves, unless that guy with the mohawk was supposed to be one.
Are we looking at a back door rebranded and relaunched Dark Future????
Doubt it, I think it will remain at 28mm.
Gorkamorka was a back door rebrand and relaunch of Dark Future. Just a lot of people argued against me at the time when I originally claimed it back in the late 90’s.
Won’t this just be kill team with new factions and a few different campaign rules
Less fiddly than Kill Team I’d warrant – will be interesting to see what it offers though.
Define “fiddly” because Necromunda is quite a crunchy game…
Necromunda and Kill Team are different and this will add vehicles, something Kill Team doesn’t have.
The curse-ed earth?
The comic looked good.
I may be tempted to buy these for use as gorkamorka mutties. If they are really good, not holding my breath, I may purchase multiple sets and create rules for 1st ed necromunda as well.
Feels like they are cashing in on Mandalorian and Boba Fett tv series success.
There’s a slightly ‘tusken raider’ look to the nomads and you can’t get more nomadic than the tuskens.
Not saying that’s a bad thing, but it would be amusing to see GW accused of breaching copyright for once.
except those concepts are from 2017 and the Ash Waste Nomads were part of the original release of Necromunda, I have a bunch of the old metals in a drawer
Tuskens been around since 1977… did GW even exist then?
hardly cashing in on the tv series when they didn’t exist in 2017
The series didn’t, but the tuskens did and redoing the wasters now is very coincidental.
You may be crediting GW with more than they deserve.
But I don’t want to argue, so I’ll settle with disagree 🙂
Yeah, no miniatures shown. What a opportunity missed.
This is standard GW operating procedure. This is the first stop for the hype train. The fact that there’s no miniatures in the preview gives you an idea of how far away the release is. This is there for one purpose only, to maintain interest in Necromunda and make sure anyone who was on the cusp of drifting away stays around a while longer. The next time there’s an announcement about it there will be a miniature teased
This definitely has.my attention. I am mot a serious player by any means, I got Necromunda more because I loved the updated gangs but I always felt, even back in the 90s, that Necromunda had that Mad Max vibe and I think this is going to finally realise that. I can’t wait to see where they’re going with this. I might also 3D print myself some vehicles as I have a few post Apoc STLs, including a Land Train!
This looks really interesting, possibly something for me to get genuinely excited for something from Games Workshop in a long while.
……17 Rulebooks and counting For Necromunda….so this will be the 18th (unless they make it a standalone game)?
